Week 4, Term 4

Physical Education

Prep PE:

Students will again be learning and practicing the side-arm strike, with a particular focus on striking a ball with a racquet or bat. We will also be recording our learning snapshot, which will be uploaded and shared via Showbie in the coming weeks.   

 

Prep Sensory:

In this week’s Sensory Gym sessions, students will participate in several activities and exercises designed to improve their hand-eye coordination, balance and core strength.

 

Grade 1 and 2:

Students will continue to explore the side arm strike and will be able to practice this skill with a racquet, bat and their hand. We will also be recording our learning snapshot, which will be uploaded and shared via Showbie in the coming weeks.   

 

Grade 3 and 4:

Students will continue to rehearse and improve the key skills required to play tennis. We will pay particular attention to serving a tennis ball, where emphasis will be given to the importance of an accurate ball toss. We will also be recording our learning snapshot, which will be uploaded and shared via Showbie in the coming weeks.   

 

Grade 5 and 6:

Students will continue to rehearse and improve the key skills required to play tennis. We will pay particular attention to the overhead smash, where we will encourage students to carefully track the ball onto their racquet. We will also be recording our learning snapshot, which will be uploaded and shared via Showbie in the coming weeks.   

Science

Grade 1 and 2 : 

We are learning how Scientists use their senses to help them observe and record information from experiments. We will look into how Scientists work and focus on some of the equipment they use to keep themselves safe when working with things that could potentially cause harm. 

 

Grade 3 and 4 : 

We are completing our Erosion knowledge check and then moving on to Space! We are investigating the Earth’s rotation and how, coupled with the sun’s rays, it impacts our days and seasons. 

 

Grade 5 and 6 : 

Students are investigating a variety of natural disasters and after being given a brief introduction will be choosing a particular natural disaster to research. 

Performing Arts

Prep

Students will continue to develop their concert work and practice moving around the stage along with their Christmas Carols items.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will practice their Christmas Carols items and explore the element of 'space' during their dance lesson focusing on completing sequences of a range of movements in time to the music. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will practice reading musical symbols and learn and practice the C7 and F add 9 chords on the ukulele and use them to begin to learn a song.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will practice reading musical symbols and use them to begin composition by writing a rhythm pattern using formal notation and clapping. Students will practice the open strings chords and C7 and F add 9 chords on the ukulele and use them to begin to learn a song.

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will continue to add layers to their ‘Secret Name Painting’ by incorporating paint pen detail and magiclay letters to stick on top.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will continue to paint their ‘Bev’ giraffe constructions, and add a ‘Kev’ bird to the tip of Bev’s nose, using magiclay.

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be finishing painting their Analogous Zebras using watercolours, thinking carefully about colour choices that sit next to each other on the colour wheel. 

 

Grade 5 

Students will begin a project based on the artist Picasso and Cantrell, with the main focus on asymmetry and the cubist movement. This week they will create a paper collage version of a face using shapes, lines and colour that are inspired by these artist works and show clear asymmetry and quirky features.

 

Grade 6

Students will be completing their clay tile focussing on adhering all 3D elements securely and adding detail using stamps and cutters, and techniques of rolling, coiling and etching to create texture in their final piece. 

Auslan

Prep

Prep students will continue to practice recalling the signs for the letters of the alphabet. They will also use this knowledge to learn how to finger spell their name in Auslan.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Grade 1 and 2 students will continue to develop their ability to sign and read simple finger spelt words. They will record 3-letter ‘M’ words that are signed to them and practice finger spelling these words to a partner. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Grade 3 and 4 students will continue to explore how time is communicated in Auslan. They will specifically look at quarter-past and quarter-to times by participating in various time recognition games.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Grade 5 and 6 students will continue to explore signs relating to money and shopping. They will participate in simple role plays that will give them opportunity to practice using these signs in context.
