Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 4, Term 4

CBL

Our 'Discovery' rotations continue during CBL time. Students have been investigating physical science, chemical science, biological science and environmental science.  We are considering how our scientific discoveries connect to our world.

READING

This week we will be reading to summarise, that is to follow and remember a series of events and identify and understand important ideas throughout a text.

What you can do at home

Ask your child to summarise the important parts of the story they are reading at different intervals during their reading time.

WRITING

This week we will be thinking carefully about sentence fluency again. We will be looking at how to craft compound sentences by using conjunctions (and, because, so, but) to join two parts together.

What you can do at home

Ask your child to check the the text they are reading for 'home reading' and find examples of compound sentences. What is the conjunction that has been used to join the two parts together.

MATHS

In Maths, we will continue working with fractions. We will be modelling and representing unit fractions for halves, thirds, quarters, fifths and eighths. We will also be considering equivalent fractions, for example one half is the same as two quarters.

What you can do at home

Use a measuring cup to compare  1/2 a cup of water with 2/4 cup of water and  1 and a 1/2 cups of water with 6 quarter cups of water. Ask your child what they notice.

REMINDERS

Term 4 Homework-

This term, we are asking students to spend time at home looking at the two websites that are available to all Wonga Park students; Mathletics and Reading Eggs. If your child requires another copy of their passwords for these programs, please let their class teacher know. Personal Spelling tasks will now be completed in the classroom each week. Daily reading is still something that we continue to encourage students to do at home each night. Please continue to record daily reading in the orange Reading Log.

iPads-

Please help your child remember to pack a fully charged iPad in their school bag each day. We use iPads as a learning tool many times throughout the week. This is made much easier when students remember to bring these tools to school each day.
