Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 4, Term 4

📚 Reading

We will continue to look at the importance of inferring - using the clues in the picture or text towork out something when it hasn't been explained or has been implied but not directly stated. When looking at pictures, students will consider, "What do I see? What do I already know? What can I infer?" When looking at texts students will consider, "what words or phrases help me to understand the text.

What can you do at home?

-Log into Reading Eggspress and find a suitable text

-Assist your child to read their take home book each night.

-Help your child to read with expression and fluency as they read.

-Ask questions of your child about what they believe the text is about, what they understand is happening and why.

🔡 Phonics

This week we will be learning the digraph of  'ow/ou' (as in 'There's a cow on the house!').

What you can do at home?

-What words can you find that have 'ow' and 'ou' in your take home books or texts that you read?

📝 Writing

Students will continue to unpack the structure and conventions of narrative writing. We will continue to explore how to map out story ideas that include characters, setting, orientation, complication and resolution, in a succinct way.

What can you do at home?

-Check your child is using the correct pencil grip (pointer finger on top).

-Practise writing sentences with a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and a full stop at the end.

-Encourage correct formation of letters.

-Unpack the stories you read with your child/ren to name the characters, setting, beginning, middle (problem) and end.

🔢  Maths

We will continue to build our understanding of multiplicative thinking by building the connection to repeated addition and the concept of counting in units other than 1s eg 4 fives or 4 twos. We are also looking at all aspects of measurement over the coming weeks, including length, mass, volume, area, capacity and time.

What can you do at home?

-Explore the Mathseeds app on the iPad. You might want to choose games / tasks that involve the concept of groups of/multiplication or any of the measurement activities.

🌏 CBL - Discovery 🔎

We will be placing our family origins on a map of the world to see where we all originated from and what those cultures might be. We have loved looking at each of the family origins as they are received either on Showbie or on paper

We will also look at our favourite family traditions/celebrations and why your family has those traditions?

What can you do at home?

Continue to talk to your child/ren about your family's history, heritage and traditions. Show them family trees if you have them and talk about your past experiences and those of your parents, of familiar experiences such as school, games, communication, transportation etc.
