Darwinia House

It has been a wonderful start to the year in Darwinia House, with plenty of activity and learning.

We welcomed our new Year 7s into the House and they completed their extensive Transition Program over the first two weeks. Moving from primary school to high school is always a big change, especially learning how to use a combination lock, and we are happy to see all students starting to feel comfortable, beginning their learning journey with us.

A highlight for me was the Year 7 Lysterfield Lake Excursion, which concluded the Year 7 Transition Program. The day was designed to consolidate friendships, continue to build relationships with other students and staff, and act as a celebration to their start of high school. Informal games and activities were undertaken, including some students heading off on a wildlife walk, viewing kangaroos and other wildlife. The main activity was House vs. House games, scoring points in a number of challenges, building teamwork and collaboration. Darwinia 7 is already showing great House spirit, working incredibly well together to take out the win. Hopefully the first of many victories for this group!

Our focus for this year is “all students thrive in 2025” and I am very proud of the way most of our Darwinia students have approached their studies so far this year. The House has been a place of calm focus, with a great deal of learning going on. It is a credit to all students and staff that our school expectations are being enacted so well. Keep up the great work everyone!

We are finalising our SRC Representatives for this year as I write this article and I look forward to working with all of our student leaders in Darwinia this year. This includes our House Captains, Roseanna and Sanam, who received their blazers this week. Our leaders focus will be on building House pride, especially through House events, including the Charity Shield. Students, keep an eye out for ways that you can contribute throughout this year.

Over the year, many of our Darwinia staff and students will contribute to the newsletter. This includes the new and returning members of the House Leadership Team. We have had the pleasure of welcoming back Mrs Bell to the Assistant House Leader position and she is sharing the role with Ms Kulling. Mr Evans is our new House Student Coordinator. Please make them feel welcome in the House and come to say hello, if you have not already done so.

I’m looking forward to another great year in the House of Winners, DarWINia. It’s in the name.
