Hakea House

It is my pleasure to welcome all Hakea students and staff back to school in 2025!
Hakeans have had an excellent start to the school year and have returned well rested and ready to learn. Students have embraced the year's theme to “thrive in 2025” and have shown excellent commitment to their learning, embracing challenges as opportunities to learn.
I would particularly like to congratulate our senior students on their start to the year. Students have demonstrated the maturity and organisation required for senior school and have begun reflection on their learning behaviours and setting goals and actions for themselves.
The Year 12 students also challenged themselves at Melbourne Cable Park in Week 2. Students were encouraged to see the excursion as a valuable opportunity to make new connections and get outside of their comfort zone in their final year of school. Many students embraced this challenge and gave their all on the water obstacle course and scaled new heights on the high ropes course. Well done to all involved; I hope you continue to embrace these opportunities in your final year of schooling.
Hakea has warmly welcomed our new Year 7s into the House. Year 7s have completed a range of activities during Welcome Week, including team building games, IT sessions and tours of the school. A particular highlight for students and HLT was the session where Year 12s and 7s connected, exploring their strengths and sharing their hopes and fears for the school year. The Year 12s demonstrated maturity and mentorship, welcoming and supporting the Year 7s, and Year 7 students participated with enthusiasm.
As part of the Transition Program, Year 7 students also visited Lysterfield Lake for an afternoon of games, sports and activities. This was an excellent opportunity for students to get to know each other and to build relationships with some of their teachers and HLT. Students have reported that this was an excellent afternoon, enjoyed by all.
Congratulations to our School Captain Mridula C and SRC President Ruba T for representing our House as Executive Student Leaders! Hakea’s House Captains this year are Ieli P and Krithiga M, who have already demonstrated leadership capabilities and commitment to representing the House with pride. They will be joined by the Student Representative Council: Adel M, Hadi F, Arif M, Ali N, Atal M, Suha T. Congratulations to all of these students. The Hakea House Leadership Team look forward to working closely with you all this year.
Congratulations to all students for such a positive start to the year. As the reigning House Shield Champions, 2025 has a lot to live up to, but Hakeans are certainly off to a very strong start!
