Food Tech
Welcome back to the Food Tech room! It’s been fantastic to have all our students back in Food Tech, ready for another year of cooking, learning, and delicious creations! Last week, we kicked things off by visiting the veggie patch to explore what we might like to plant and grow. The students had great discussions about the herbs, fruits, and vegetables they’d love to use in our recipes throughout the year. Back in the kitchen, we got reacquainted with hygiene and safety practices while preparing some tasty snacks to share. It was a wonderful way to ease back into cooking and enjoy some delicious food together.
Year 6 got busy in the kitchen making mini Quiches! We kicked off the lesson by discussing various ways to cut pastry and how different ingredients can be used to create unique flavors. I encouraged the students to step out of their comfort zones and try at least one ingredient they wouldn't normally choose to include in their Quiches. The results were fantastic, with some creative combinations and delicious outcomes. Everyone did an amazing job, and it was great to see them experiment and have fun with their cooking! Well done, Year 6!
Our Year 7 students had a blast experimenting with different cookie flavors! They mixed and matched ingredients to create some delicious, unique treats. After tasting their creations, the students decided they would love to make them again in two weeks. The plan is to bake enough cookies to take with them when they head off to Melbourne on their class camp.
During the discussion, the students also considered the diverse dietary needs of their classmates. They agreed to make sure to include gluten-free and lactose-free options so everyone can enjoy the treats, no matter their food allergies. We can't wait to see (and taste!) what they come up with next!
Looking forward to all the exciting dishes we’ll be making this year!

Year 7 Personal Development
The Year 7 PD class have been learning some great life/house skills in the last two weeks. They have had a special visit from our very own Uniform Shop Manager, Maria Sully, teaching the students the most basic skill of sewing on a button. The students got to take home their handy work to show off to Parents.
The following week, they learned the simple task of doing the washing of clothes, from getting them into the washing basket (remembering to check pockets first) to running the machine (front or top loader, not the ancient copper ones that heat up over an open fire) and hanging them out.
I hope that Parents/Guardians can profit from this new wealth of knowledge and can give a few pointers to their children on how they would like it done.

VCE VM
On Tuesday 11th Feb, our VCE VM students travelled down to the Skills and Jobs Centre at the old courthouse in Warrnambool. We were fortunate enough to have a session with the team leader and careers practitioner, Brendan Donahoo. Our students gained some valuable insights into different career pathways and options and were given some space to think more about what they are "curious about" and what careers might align with their interests and passions. We now look forward to attending the Careers Expo on the 4th of March.
