PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We have kicked off the year with our traditional Athletics units to prepare for our upcoming Athletics day.

Our Grade 5/6's have enjoyed progressing their shot put, discus and triple jump techniques. It's great to see solid improvements from our skills last year.

Our Grade 3/4's have been learning the basics of their track and field events. Alongside their Athletic skills, students have been completing their golf clinics with Paul from Golf Victoria.

These golf clinics have involved the Grade 1/2 students too - they have been discovering skills such as putting and driving.

Finally, our Prep students are getting to know our classroom expectations and some classic P.E games such as 'Poison Ball' and 'Rob the Nest'. We are also preparing students for our upcoming Athletics day with vortex throw, discus throw and leaping over hurdles.

Hockey Clinics

We are excited to welcome the Hockey Victoria Roadshow to our school! Students are being given the fantastic opportunity to try out the exciting game of hockey! They will learn the skills of the game through exciting game-based activities suited to every year level and ability. Hockey Victoria will be sending their amazing Participation Officers to our school in the coming weeks to provide an engaging, fun, and safe hockey experience for everyone. At Hockey Victoria they pride themselves in providing an enjoyable experience for every student, so keep an eye out and see if you can spot one of their coaches at school soon!If you enjoy the sessions during school, you can continue with your hockey experience by joining a local Hookin2Hockey program www.hookin2hockey.com.au. With programs all over the state you can find a local program that will suit your schedule.

LOTE - AUSLAN

We have begun 2025 with a big revision on letters and numbers. Our Middle and Senior students have been working on their 2 and 3 digit numbers when responding to questions and playing games. They have also been practising their fingerspelling skills and identify the vowels within each word.

Our Juniors have begun working on introducing themselves, starting conversations, responding to yes/no/maybe questions AND how to best use manners. So many topics in such a short amount of time - I can't wait to see how much more we can learn this term!

STEAM: Science, Technology & The Arts

My name is Jennifer Dyt and I have taught here at Officer Primary school for many years in a classroom capacity. I  am pleased to have the S.T.E.A.M position for 2025. We look forward to moving into the new S.T.E.A.M room in the next few weeks once the furniture arrives! Until then, lessons will be in the individual classrooms till further notice. We have been busy setting classroom expectations and learning what S.T.E.A.M involves and getting to know each other.

Term learning

We have been invited to participate in the Pakenham Show on Saturday 15th of March to create an art display. The theme is 'Bees', which fits in perfectly with our science topic, more specifically Biology. Biology includes studying living and non living things, features of living things, how things grow and change and dependence on the environment for survival.

We will be learning about life cycles, and features of our important friends, the bees!
