Parents and Friends (PFA)

Parents and Friends-2025 and AGM
Each year the school calls for registrations for our Parents and Friends Association for Officer Primary School. The Parent and Friend Association are a significant body that lead key events for our school community. We highly rely on their support! We would love as many parents to participate in our school community this year.
Our Annual General Meeting for election of Officer Bearers for President, Secretary and Treasurer role will be held on
Tuesday March 11th at 3.30pm
The process includes nominating yourself to be part of the PFA. On the night office bearers will be determined.
Role of a parents’ club/association
Parents’ clubs (alternatively called parents’ associations) promote the welfare of, and provide support to, the school and its community. Parents are key partners in their child’s learning. By interacting with the school and other parents, parents’ club members can use their skills and experience to work collaboratively with others in supporting the school and its students, and build a sense of community within the school.
The role of a parents’ club is threefold:
- to provide support, in various forms, for the school, its students and community, including raising funds for the benefit of the school
- to work in cooperation with the principal, staff and school council in building effective partnerships between home and school
- to encourage diversity by getting to know the parents of other children at the school, and to support the operation of the school.
A parents’ club is not a subcommittee of the school council. Parents’ clubs have no legal powers, functions or formally prescribed powers or duties and must ensure they operate in accordance with the Regulations and have a ministerially approved constitution. Parents’ clubs must operate in accordance with the rules and procedures set out in their constitution.
Typical activities of a parents’ club
In performing their role, parents’ clubs may undertake a variety of social, cultural, educational or fundraising activities. Parents’ club members, working with the principal, provide invaluable support to the school in a number of ways with the primary motivation of building a sense of community. Such activities may include:
- promoting cultural and social diversity by encouraging membership and participation of all parents in parents’ clubs
- channelling parents’ views to the school leadership about school policies that have been identified by the school for review
- discussing, planning and organising events such as:
- welcoming new students and parents at the school
- second-hand book and uniform schemes
- social opportunities
- comedy or movie nights
- twilight markets
- bush dances
- barbeques
- parent information sessions
- raising funds for the school with the prior approval of the school council.
NEWS FROM PFA TEAM:
Term 4, 2024 - what a way to the end the year! We had Footy and Hotdog day, an amazing participation rate for the new to OPS Krispy Kreme Donut fundraiser, the school disco along with the delicious sausage sizzle, and we ended the year with who can forget the Christmas Raffle and those fabulous prices! It was a fun filled term that's for sure.
We have started off term 1, 2025 just as well!
Pizza day was a huge success with 117 pizzas delivered to our students across all year levels. A huge thank you to Tamara and Jenny, and our 5/6 helpers for your wonderful pizza delivery skills. You are all very much appreciated.
The Second Hand Uniform Shop is currently being re-located so stay tuned for updates on the new location, upcoming sales and ongoing opening times. If you need anything before then please do reach out to Sian or the ladies in the office.
We have already reached out to our senior school students this term, for their thoughts and wishes for the upcoming year. There have been so many great ideas already and we look forward to exploring them further and implementing some of them over the course of the year. Great ideas seniors – thank you!
The focus of PFA for 2025 is to raise funds to assist with outdoor resources for the students. A much needed upgrade to the sandpit is the big ticket item, but not forgetting new basketball uniforms, marquees for some shelter from the fabulous Melbourne weather (rain or sun!) which will no doubt come in handy for the upcoming Athletics day, as well as funds towards the new bike shed.
Keep an eye out for the upcoming Easter Raffle, the Colour Run will be back in term 2, and of course not to forget the Mother's Day stall.
Reminder that the PFA Annual General Meeting will be held at school on Tuesday March 11, 3.30pm. The PFA are a significant body that lead key events for our school community. It is both rewarding and fun and a great way to meet others in our school community. We would love to have parents and carers from both junior, middle and senior school join us. If you are considering, or have questions, on joining or what's involved in being part of the PFA, feel free to reach out to us or grab a form from the lovely ladies in the office.
We cannot do any of this without your support. We thank you for all your fundraising efforts and look forward to another great year.
Thanks
Jess and the PFA Team.
