On Thursday the 20th of February we celebrated our Opening School Mass and badging of our 2025 Student Leadership team. Thank you to all those families who joined us for this special occasion. As part of the badging Ceremony, the whole of Year Six stood and pledged that they would lead our school in 2025 respectfully, responsibly and safely.
On Tuesday the 4th of March our Mini-Vinnies team will be serving pancakes to our students to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally during Lent, Christians would give up rich, tasty foods such as butter, eggs, sugar and fat. Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat them which is why many Christians still eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Pancakes will be 50c each. A flyer will be sent home next week advertising this event.
On Wednesday the 5th of March our Years 3 - 6 students will travel by bus to St. Mary's Church to attend a combined school's Mass with St. Mary's school to celebrate Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday signifies the first day of Lent. On Ash Wednesday we receive the mark of the ashes. The ashes are the blessed burnt palms from the previous Palm Sunday. They are a symbol of repentance and are placed on the forehead of Catholics around the world. The ashes are a physical sign that Lent has begun. Mass for Years 3 - 6 will begin at 12pm in St. Mary's Church. Kindergarten to Year 2 students will be led in a Liturgy by Year 2 in Kenna Hall at 2pm. Families are invited to attend both services.
Regardless of where we live in the world, over the forty-day period of Lent we are called to examine and renew our spiritual life. Lent is a time of prayer, almsgiving and fasting. These are the 3 pillars of Lent.
Ash Wednesday also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. Project Compassion 2025 reminds us that the good we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come.
With your support, Caritas Australia has been able to assist communities around the world through income generation, water and sanitation, food security, education and disaster risk reduction programs.
Please give generously to Caritas Australia this Lenten season and help vulnerable people around the world, now and for all future generations. Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow.
Project Compassion boxes will be sent home for each family in Lent.
Have a lovely fortnight and God Bless.
