YEAR FOUR
Grade Bulletin - Term Four, 2025
Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School provides a range of holistic learning experiences to enable students to:

E4: Program Morality & Justice - The Commandments.
This unit examines how the Commandments of God guide us to live the Christian life. This forms the basis for introducing and exploring Jesus’ new commandment with reference back to the Ten Commandments. The unit leads to a deeper understanding of how the Commandments guide us in living in right relationship with God and others.
B4: Church & Community - Mary, Mother of God.
This unit explores the way in which Mary listened and responded to God in the events of her life. It highlights the importance and challenge in Christian life of listening, reflecting and trusting in the ways of God. It explores Marian prayers and feast days as ways in which the Church honours Mary, the Mother of God. The unit invites students to reflect on ways in which they can receive and respond to God’s call in their lives.
DLY4: Advent & Christmas.
This unit allos students to explore the seasons of Advent and Christmas within the Catholic Liturgical Year. They will learn that Advent is a time of journey and hope, as we prepare for the coming of Jesus. Through stories from the New Testament, students will discover how people waited in hope for the birth of Jesus and reflect on the meaning of Christmas in their own lives.
This term, students will explore the world of poetry - how it sounds, how it feels, and how it works. They’ll read and enjoy a variety of poems, learning how poets use language to express emotions, tell stories, describe things, and persuade others. Students will discover different poetic techniques and try them out in their own writing, building confidence and creativity as they compose poems in a range of styles.
Students will continue practising their reading strategies in Reading Groups. They will also engage in the ‘Soundwaves’ spelling program. The students will be tested on their content words throughout the Term.
Speaking and listening skills will be assessed in a variety of opportunities including presentations to small and large groups.
This term we will be focusing on the following units:
Students will engage in differentiated tasks in their homerooms. These class groups will remain fluid as we cater to the needs of individuals and their understanding of various mathematical concepts. Please continue to practise the instant recall of the two, three, four, five, and ten times table facts with your children at home, as this is an essential skill they will require.
This term, students will explore the unit on the Physical World, focusing on light, heat, and electrical energy, as well as how contact forces affect the behaviour of objects. Students will develop their understanding of energy as a resource that can be generated and transferred. They will investigate the interconnectedness of energy forces that affect the behaviour of objects. Students will observe how energy and forces are used in the manufacture of products and systems.
To address the inquiry question "How do heat, light, and electrical energy make things happen?", students will explore the various ways these forms of energy are used in our daily lives and how they impact the world around us.
Students will continue with the History unit from Term 3. They will delve deeper into the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, European exploration, and colonization in Australia. Focusing on the period from the late 1700s to the early 1800s, students will investigate early exploration throughout the world and its impact on societies and cultures. This will build upon the knowledge gained in Term 3 and provide a more comprehensive understanding of global history during this era.
To enrich their learning, students will participate in an excursion to The Rocks: First Contacts Experience on Monday 27th October 2025. Please refer to COMPASS for further details.
Sport: This term, students will develop their movement skills, strategic thinking, and teamwork through engaging basketball and striking/fielding activities. In striking and fielding games such as baseball and T-Ball, students will refine specialised skills including striking, fielding, and catching, while learning to adapt techniques to different game contexts. In basketball, they will focus on passing, dribbling, and movement skills to build accuracy and control. Through modified games, students will apply tactics, demonstrate fair play, and work collaboratively to solve movement challenges.
Students will also participate in an Intensive Swim Week in week 2 and 3. During this week, they will focus on developing essential swimming skills in a safe and supportive environment. Lessons will cover stroke techniques, water safety, and fun aquatic activities, helping students gain confidence and competence in the water.
In addition, students will take part in the Swimming Carnival on Friday the 28th of November (Week 7), providing an opportunity to demonstrate their swimming skills, celebrate participation, and enjoy friendly competition.
Peer Support:
This term, we’re exploring the Keeping Friends module—an enriching series of five sessions focused on friendship, empathy, and critical thinking. We encourage families to chat with their children about Peer Support each week. These conversations help reinforce the values and skills explored during the sessions, and deepen the impact of this meaningful program.
Open Parachute:
Open Parachute will then continue for the remainder of the Term. Open Parachute aims to provide practical support on mental health to students. The program aims to reduce stigma and generate authentic dialogue in classrooms about the real issues students face. The psychological skills-building exercises aim to increase empathy, self-compassion, self-awareness, mental health literacy, and self-efficacy in students.
Students will continue with the Amadeus Music Education Program and participate in activities in listening, performing, and organising sound within their regular classroom Music lessons.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they:
Arrive on time for each lesson
Bring their instrument and required accessories to every lesson
Bring their Essential Elements* music book
Bring a lead pencil and eraser
In Music with Mr Parlato, students will develop their understanding of percussion instruments and create and perform known and unknown beats and rhythms.
Visual Arts will involve a range of activities teaching students to use mixed media and collage techniques related to the History unit – Colonisation in Australia and the English unit on Poetry.
Drama will be looking at scene analysis incorporating storytelling, improvisation and growth mindset.
Students will receive a weekly maths worksheet that reflects the concepts taught in class. Additional tasks may be set through Studyladder for extra practice. Each day, students should spend up to 30 minutes on homework, including 20 minutes of reading. They are expected to record their reading in a log and have it signed by a parent or carer.
The reading log and homework book are due every Friday. All homework information can be found on the Google Classroom Homework Landing Page.
