Religious Education

PRAYER, LITURGY AND SACRAMENTS- The Church: Students will continue to learn about the Church as the community of believers who gather to pray and celebrate. Students will continue to be introduced to the sacred texts, liturgical vessels, furniture and gestures, and how they are used during the celebration of Mass.

MORALITY & JUSTICE - God Loves All People: This unit focuses on God’s love for all people through an exploration of key Old Testament figures. The students are introduced to the biblical  figures of Moses, Jonah and David. These stories speak of God’s protection, unconditional love, compassion and forgiveness. God is full of  compassion and love for all people and often chooses unexpected people to do his will. God’s love and compassion is for everyone, not just his chosen people.

The Liturgical Year: This Liturgical Year unit enables students to explore the traditions, beliefs, Scripture and events celebrated by the Catholic community. Students will focus on the time of Advent to Christmas.

English

Reading Fluency and Reading Comprehension:

The students will continue to develop their skills and strategies to read decodable texts. Students will develop the ability to monitor their comprehension by self-correcting when making an error or re-reading to clarify their understanding. They will learn how to use known vocabulary to work out the meaning of unknown words in a text. Students will identify words that tell the reader who, what, when, where and why.

Creating Written Texts:

This term, the students will understand and respond to quality literature. They will develop the ability to sequence their ideas when writing a text and include recognisable features of a text. They will focus on recording the initial, middle and final sounds of words as well as writing high frequency words. Students will continue to work on improving their work by applying teacher feedback.

Spelling and Phonemic awareness:

Students will continue to develop their phonic knowledge through explicit teaching followed by plenty of opportunities for consolidation.

Oral Language and Communication:

Students will not be presenting personal ‘NEWS’ in Term 4. We will be focusing on Oral Language and Communication tasks within our Literacy Units where the children will share their opinions and form appropriate questions for each book and character. Students will continue to listen for understanding, contribute to social and learning interactions, use correct tense when speaking and retelling details of a story or event. They are also encouraged to review their own writing and discuss improvements.

Mathematics

The students will be explicitly taught concepts from the NSW Mathematics K-10 Syllabus with a focus on communication, reasoning and understanding. Activities are differentiated to cater for all student needs and abilities.

The topics taught in Term 4 are:

  • Combining and Separating Quantities

  • Geometric Measure (Position)

  • Geometric Measure (Length)

  • Forming Groups

  • 3D Spatial Structure (Volume)

  • 2D Spatial Structure (2D Shapes)

  • Data

Science and Technology

This term in the ‘On the move’ unit, students will focus on the physical characteristics of objects and the effects of these on how they move. Children will investigate how push and pull forces create movement and introduce the fundamental concepts of force and motion.

History

In Term 4 students will continue to develop skills of historical inquiry and communication, their own history and that of their family. The children will share family celebrations and learn about special community events.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Sport: This term, students will focus on developing their throwing and rolling skills through a range of fun, target-based games. They will practise aiming with accuracy, applying the underarm and overarm technique, and adjusting force and direction to successfully hit a variety of stationary targets. In addition, students will participate in striking and fielding games that strengthen both their striking ability and fielding awareness. These activities are designed to promote coordination, spatial awareness, and strategic thinking, while also building confidence, resilience, and teamwork. By engaging in these experiences, students will continue to develop their gross motor skills in a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.

Students will also be undergoing an Intensive Swim Week in week 5 and 6. During our Intensive Swim Week, students will focus on developing essential swimming skills in a safe and supportive environment. They will participate in lessons that include stroke techniques, water safety, and fun aquatic activities, ensuring they gain confidence and competence in the water.

Peer Support

We’re excited to launch our Peer Support program in Term 4. All students participate in 30-minute sessions each Friday. In this initiative, two trained Peer Leaders guide a small group of 8–10 younger students through engaging, structured activities designed to foster connection and collaboration.

This term, we’re exploring the Keeping Friends module—an enriching series of five sessions  focused on friendship, empathy, and critical thinking. We encourage families to chat with their children about Peer Support each week. These conversations help reinforce the values and skills explored during the sessions, and deepen the impact of this meaningful program.

Health

Students will learn about water and sun safety in the first half of term 4. They will identify ways to be safe in the water (in a pool or at the beach), learn to recognise safety signs and symbols and understand the importance of water and sun safety. In the second half of the term, students will learn about safety in the home. Learning activities will focus on identifying people and strategies that will keep them safe in and around the home, including safe places to play, safe use of medicines, harmful substances around the home, fire safety rules and how to call for emergency services.

Creative Arts

In Visual Arts, students will continue to use a variety of media to create artworks including oil pastels, paint, watercolour and collage. They will create artworks based on the literature we are studying. Students will create Religious artworks to reflect the Scripture passages and collage to create their own Advent wreath. They will also create Christmas craft.

Homework

Kindergarten will begin Homework in Week 2. Homework will consist of daily reading, tricky words and counting work. Further information will be sent home at the beginning of Week 2.

We look forward to continuing to work with you and your child this term. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher via a note, email or by appointment through the school office.
