Faith and Mission

At John XXIII College, our commitment to reconciliation is embedded in our school community, curriculum, and creative expression. As part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation, we continue to take meaningful steps toward fostering an environment that acknowledges the truth of our shared history, celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and builds respectful relationships with First Nations peoples.

This commitment was particularly evident on 13 February, the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, when our Artist in Residence, Mel Spillman from Maarakoot Art, worked alongside our Senior Visual Art students to have input in the design concept for artwork for our main reception area.  Through this experience, students engaged deeply with Indigenous storytelling, symbolism, and the importance of connection to Country.

Beyond the arts, our commitment to truth-telling is present within our formal and informal curriculum. We continue to ensure that students engage with First Nations perspectives across multiple learning areas, in both Primary and Secondary. The anniversary of the Apology serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging past injustices and actively working toward a future founded on respect and understanding.

As a community guided by our motto, Seek Justice, we remain dedicated to listening, learning, and acting in support of reconciliation. Through these initiatives, we hope to inspire our students, staff and wider community to become advocates for truth, healing, and unity.

Community Mass

Thank you to Year 11 students who prepared Community Mass this week.

28 February is the next date for our Friday Community Eucharist, which will be prepared by students in Koolyangarra House. Koolyangarra families are especially welcome!

(Please note there is NO Friday Liturgy in Week 3, as the whole College will gather on Tuesday to celebrate the Eucharist and pray God’s blessings on the year ahead.)

At our Community Eucharist, everyone is welcome, especially new families. If you are new to the College or to our Friday Mass, just come to the Chapel in time for an 8:00 start. There is no reserved seating. The celebration is always joyful, with singing led by our student choir and readings proclaimed by student readers. After Mass, coffee is in the Circle of Friends Café for those who can stay.

If you have any questions about Community Mass, please contact Mary-Anne Lumley:
