All In for Reconciliation
As we look ahead to next week, our school will come alive with purposeful learning and deep connection as we celebrate Reconciliation Week. Across all year levels, our students will engage in rich transdisciplinary experiences that celebrate Indigenous culture, history, and science, supported beautifully by our classroom teachers and specialist programs. Foundation students will plant Indigenous seeds and use puppets to bring Dreamtime stories to life, while our Juniors will express community and belonging by creating a whole-school footprint mural. Meanwhile, our Middles will dive into traditional games and deep literature analysis, and our Seniors will bridge ancient knowledge with modern science by investigating Indigenous astronomy. This meaningful learning will extend across all our specialist classes—from designing Indigenous houses in STEM and crafting Dreamtime artwork, to exploring rhythm and studying iconic songwriters like Archie Roach in Performing Arts. We are excited with these truly meaningful opportunities for our students to listen, learn, and grow together on our shared journey toward reconciliation.
Division Cross Country Success
A massive congratulations to the eighteen students who proudly represented our school at the Division Cross Country competition. Despite a challenging course and demanding conditions, every single one of our runners gave their absolute best effort and demonstrated wonderful determination. I am also thrilled to recognize the following students who have qualified to represent Highton Primary at the upcoming Regional Cross Country Championships. We wish them the absolute best of luck as they take on the next stage!

Responding to and Reporting Child Safety Concerns
Our Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations Policy outlines the procedures our staff follow to address complaints or concerns related to child abuse. This policy is vital for keeping students safe as it ensures that all staff understand their legal and departmental obligations to report child abuse to the appropriate authorities, such as the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing Child Protection or Victoria Police. The policy provides staff with a clear process, starting with immediate action if a child is at risk of harm, and instructs them to err on the side of caution by reporting any concerns, even if they are uncertain whether it constitutes child abuse. This ensures that all issues are taken seriously and addressed promptly to protect students.
