Welcome to the second edition of the St Luke’s Catholic College SRC Article of Term 2, proudly brought to you by your student leaders!

In this week’s edition, we aim to talk about the initiatives we have done so far and exciting events coming up!

As your SRC, we are committed to continuing to represent your voices, support student initiatives and help make our school an inclusive and vibrant environment for all. We encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone this term, try something new and continue showing the pride and spirit that makes St Luke’s such a special place.

School & Vice Captain

As we move past the halfway mark of the term, the SRC would like to thank students for their continued involvement and enthusiasm throughout the semester. We have several exciting initiatives and events coming up, and we wanted to share a few important updates with the school community.

One of the SRC’s major projects will help improve communication between students and the SRC by providing updates, opportunities, and event information in one place.

The Year 12 Formal Committee has also been working hard behind the scenes and continues to meet every fortnight to organise this year’s formal. Planning and theme discussions are underway, but ticket sales remain a concern, with fewer than half of the grade having purchased tickets. We encourage students to buy their tickets as soon as possible.

Pyjama Day is also taking place this Friday, so make sure to get involved, show your school spirit, and remember to donate on QKR.

Finally, with just over half the term completed, keep giving your best effort academically and personally. As always, feel free to approach the SRC with any questions or ideas.

Connectivity and Inclusion

"To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater." — Bono

Hi, It’s Simran and Natasha, your Connectivity and Inclusion leaders,  today we are excited to introduce a very special initiative focused on celebrating learning differences and fostering empathy within our school community. Recently, Natasha and I had our first meeting with Arrunga as part of the preparation for a series of workshops aimed at promoting understanding, inclusion, and connection.

To ensure that this initiative is authentic and meaningful, we have planned ongoing visits to Arrunga where we will have the opportunity to interact with students, learn from their experiences, and better understand the diverse ways people learn and communicate. Through these experiences, we hope to create workshops that encourage students to reflect on the importance of empathy, kindness, patience, and inclusion in everyday school life.

Our goal is not only to support Arrunga students, but also to strengthen the wider school community by helping everyone recognise that different learning styles and abilities should be

respected, valued, and celebrated. As the details of the workshops are still being developed, we encourage anyone who is interested in being involved or learning more to approach Simran or Natasha. We would love to hear your ideas and see more students become part of this initiative so feel free to contact us via email or in person.

We believe that inclusion begins with understanding, and understanding begins with us!

Creative Arts & Culture

Hi everyone, it’s Asmika & Jonas,

We hope you’ve all been doing well lately and settling into the term smoothly. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working on some new creative and cultural proposals focused on bringing more student involvement, creativity, and school spirit into our community. As part of this, we’re excited to introduce a monthly art challenge where students will be able to showcase their ideas and talents through different themes and creative prompts each month. We’ve loved seeing how creative everyone already is around the school, and we’re really looking forward to creating more opportunities for students to express themselves and get involved. Stay in touch for more information and we’ll see you next time.

Mission & Faith

Hi St Luke’s community, Tim and Summer here to share recent updates from the Mission & Faith Development space!

As May draws to a close, thank you to all members of the school community that attended the group rosaries held at lunchtime during this month. It’s beautiful to see that people have come together in faith and unity in prayer under the guidance of Mary. We thank Ms Saab for leading this daily!

Today, the 29th of May, St Luke’s celebrated Pyjama Day! Thank you for all the gold coin donations, and to the students and staff who dressed in their sleepwear. These charitable contributions and cozy outfits have helped promote social justice by supporting St Vincent De Paul Society’s cause: to raise money and awareness for those experiencing homelessness. We have funded direct assistance to those who lack necessities and are particularly vulnerable during the colder months. In wearing warm clothes, we can appreciate the simple comforts often taken for granted, and are motivated to help alleviate the harsh lifestyle faced by those without shelter.

The Vinnies Winter Sleepout is also upcoming on the 19th of June, another event available for Year 9–12 students to support St Vincent De Paul Society’s work, with a $10 Qkr! donation to join. This will involve activities simulating the realities of the homeless for all student participants, then Year 12 students are invited to stay overnight. Ask some friends to sign up together, and use this as a chance to hang out while getting behind a cause that truly matters!

Just a reminder that students and staff have the opportunity to participate in the sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday mornings (9am to 10am) at school! This is a meaningful way to not only reflect on our choices, but experience God’s forgiveness first-hand and step into the rest of the term with a clean slate. We all often feel heavy with quiet stress and regrets in our daily lives, so this serves as a completely judgment-free space to find peace. We thank Father Gayan for being so generous with his time and spiritual guidance of our school community.

We thank all students, staff, and parents who have contributed to the school’s faith and social justice efforts. Moving forward, let’s keep it up and keep finding ways to make a difference together ◡̈

This is Tim and Summer signing off for week 6!

Stewardship

Thank you to everyone who participated in Pyjama Day, where students contributed donations to support those experiencing social inequities and hardship within the wider community. This initiative reflected the values of caring for God’s Earth and recognising that we are all brothers and sisters who share a responsibility to support and uplift one another.

Recently, we have worked together to raise awareness about the importance of caring for our environment and inspiring students to take action in both small and meaningful ways.

One of our key initiatives was organising and promoting Earth Poster Day, where informative and creative posters were displayed throughout the marketplace to advocate for environmental protection and sustainability. These posters highlighted important issues such as waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and protecting natural ecosystems. Through this initiative, we aimed to educate students and encourage everyday actions that can positively impact the environment.

We are also currently working on organising a school clean-up day involving younger grades, where students will work together to help keep our school grounds clean and cared for. This initiative aims to encourage teamwork, responsibility, and pride in maintaining a healthy environment, while also teaching younger students the importance of stewardship from an early age.

Wellbeing

As Wellbeing Leaders, we are passionate about promoting positive mental health and wellbeing within the St Luke’s community. One of our key contributions this year has been supporting and promoting the school’s SchoolTV platform — an online wellbeing resource designed to support students, parents, and families through important topics surrounding mental health, resilience, study stress, friendships, and personal growth.

We worked together to create a promotional video to help raise awareness about SchoolTV and encourage students and families to make use of the valuable support available. Through this initiative, we aimed to break down the stigma surrounding mental health conversations and remind students that support is always accessible within our school community. SchoolTV provides trusted information, expert advice, and practical strategies to help students navigate the challenges of school and everyday life. As wellbeing leaders, we believe it is important to create a supportive environment where everyone feels safe, heard, and encouraged to seek help when needed.

Alongside this, we are continuing to develop our legacy project focused on introducing Senior Advisory Workshops for students. These workshops aim to create a supportive space where senior students can build confidence, develop wellbeing strategies, strengthen connections with peers, and gain guidance for managing the challenges of senior school life. We hope this initiative will leave a positive and lasting impact on future students at St Luke’s.

We are proud to contribute towards initiatives that strengthen student wellbeing and help foster a more connected and caring school community.
