Spelling Bee School Final

This week, we are excited to host our Spelling Bee finals, where students will showcase their spelling skills and compete in a spirit of friendly competition. Events like these highlight the importance we place on literacy and spelling.

We are proud to share that our school consistently performs highly in NAPLAN spelling, achieving results above those of other schools with similar student profiles. This success is a reflection of our dedicated focus on developing strong spelling skills across all year levels.

A key contributor to our achievements is the range of targeted programs we offer. Our phonics instruction establishes a solid literacy foundation, ensuring students acquire crucial decoding and spelling strategies early on. For students in Years 3 to 6, we implement the Spelling Mastery program, where students are grouped according to their individual spelling abilities in small, focused groups. This allows for more intensive and targeted support tailored to each student’s needs, helping them grow in confidence and skill.

Through these specialised programs and enrichment opportunities like the Spelling Bee, we are committed to nurturing our students’ literacy and supporting their ongoing academic success.

Staffing Update

I am delighted to welcome Heidi El Cheikh to our school office as our new School Administrative Officer. We are very fortunate to have Heidi join our team, and I am confident that her skills and enthusiasm will be valuable assets to our school community.

As the School Administrative Officer, Heidi will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our office and supporting both staff, students and parents. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Heidi, and offer your support as she settles into her new position.

Student Wellbeing

At our school, student wellbeing and behaviour are very important. We believe that when students feel safe, supported, and respected, they can learn and grow their best. Our approach focuses on creating a positive and caring environment where everyone knows what is expected and feels valued.

To support this, we have a School Behaviour Support and Management Plan, which you can find on our school website. This plan outlines how we work together to encourage positive behaviour and how we respond when issues happen. It helps us keep a safe and happy space for all students.

One of the key programs we use is called PAX Good Behaviour Game. PAX is all about teaching positive habits, kindness, and ways to make good choices. It helps students build skills like self-control, teamwork, and respect, so they can enjoy school and succeed.

We also follow “The Meadowbank Way,” which is our special way of working together as a school community. It means we all show respect, do our best, and care for one another. By following The Meadowbank Way, we create a friendly and welcoming place where everyone belongs.

These programs are designed to explicitly teach students the expected behaviours to be safe, responsible, and respectful at school. Through regular lessons and discussions, students learn what these behaviours look like in different situations and understand why they are important for everyone’s wellbeing.

When a student breaches these expected behaviours, we follow up thoughtfully and consistently. This may involve having a reflection session with the student, where we talk about what happened, how it affected others, and how to make better choices in the future. We also contact parents or carers where required, so they are informed and can support their child at home.

Our goal is to help students learn from their mistakes, understand the impact of their actions, and grow as responsible members of the school community. By working together, we support every child to be safe, responsible, and respectful.
