School Expectations

Building a Positive Learning Environment Together
Our school is committed to creating calm and safe learning environments where every student can thrive. As we continue our journey towards becoming a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, we are placing a renewed focus on two important areas: lining up after breaks and moving respectfully through our school.
Research shows that clear, consistent expectations help create successful school cultures and classrooms. When students know exactly what is expected of them and experience these expectations being reinforced consistently, they feel safer, more settled and better prepared to learn. Strong routines and positive behaviour supports maximise learning time, reduce disruptions and help students focus.
Over the coming weeks, classes will be recognised and acknowledged for successfully lining up according to our whole school expectations. These positive acknowledgements will contribute towards a whole school reward, which will be selected by our Student Representative Council (SRC). We are excited to celebrate the collective efforts of our students.
A second focus area is supporting students to move calmly, safely and respectfully throughout the school. Walking quietly through spaces helps students transition effectively between activities and arrive ready to learn. As a school that consistently strives for academic excellence, ensuring students are prepared and focused for learning is incredibly important. Calm transitions help maximise learning time and ensure students are ready to engage with their learning.
We also ask for the support of our families during school assemblies and liturgies. We are explicitly teaching students to enter these spaces calmly and quietly, showing respect for the class leading the gathering. We kindly ask parents and carers to model these same behaviours by waiting quietly in the hall before proceedings begin. By doing so, we send a united message about how we show respect in shared gathering spaces. Moving forward, families will also be asked to wait until all the students have left the hall before leaving. This will help maintain a calm environment for our students, which is our priority.
Finally, we ask families to continue modelling positive road safety behaviours in our community. We ask all parents and carers to use the designated supervised crossings on Stanhope Street when arriving at and leaving school. Choosing to cross between parked cars or from behind vehicles can significantly reduce visibility for both pedestrians and drivers. Children are constantly observing the actions of the adults around them, and by modelling safe and responsible choices, we help them develop habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.
