Principal's Report

National Reconciliation Week – EMC Flag Raising Ceremony
On Tuesday this week I was very proud to take 10 of our Koorie students along with Pip to the EMC flag raising ceremony. Aligning with the theme ‘All In’, it was pleasing to have students from all three primary schools, some parents, and other local community members join together for this event.
National Reconciliation Week, held annually from 27 May to 3 June, is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements. It is also a time to recommit ourselves to reconciliation.
The start and end of National Reconciliation Week recognises 2 significant milestones: the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision. These are a reminder that change is possible and it’s never too late to listen and learn from First Nations people.
The theme for 2026 is ‘All In’. It is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day. ‘All In’ means everyone is included. It is a call to take part, take action and drive change.
Semester 1 Reports
We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual.
The reports will be distributed on Thursday 25th June.
The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments may not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at our next parent-teacher interviews scheduled for 16th and 17th July 2026, or, as always, you can contact the school on 9789 7346 to arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher.
National Simultaneous Reading & Open Morning
These are some of the highlights of the year. Having parents and grandparents in classrooms enjoying some great literature and completing an activity is a wonderful thing. I got to walk around to most classrooms, and it was interesting to see the different angles each year level took with the book “Luna Roo”.
I must admit I do enjoy reading it each year as I do miss being in the classroom (at times). Thanks to all parents and grandparents who came along, our teachers for preparing an activity and Ms Soutar for organizing the event.
One Love – Australia
Today all our Year 5 and 6 students participated in an Anti-Racism workshop with their classmates. Facilitators from One Love Australia and Academy coaches from Melbourne City soccer club worked with our students to spread their message. The students discussed their understanding of racism and where in the community we are likely to see it and hear it. They learnt that we need to all work together to stamp out racism. Students learnt about a response toolkit which helps them deal with a racist incident.
Have a great fortnight,
Nicola Pepper
