Parents & Friends' (PFA)

It’s our second last newsletter for the year and there is still plenty of activity to come.

Christmas Carols and Raffle - 11 December

By now you would have received an email from the school requesting donations of Christmas goodies for the raffle held on the night of the Christmas carols. Please donate any items you can, including any baskets or boxes, by Wednesday 6 December to the office. Thanks to our Prep class liaisons (Naobh Deka and Efra Chairul) and for taking the lead on organising the raffle. Please return any sold raffle tickets to the office.

The PFA will also be putting on a sausage sizzle with soft drinks and sausages for purchase - head on down for an early dinner before enjoying the carols. We may even give the popular snow cone machine another whirl. More details to come.

Dads’ Day Out - Saturday 25 November

Thanks to Troy and Scott for leading the charge on one more Dad’s Day Out last Saturday. And thanks to those who attended. It’s always a lot of fun.

Annual General Meeting 28th Nov (following the regular meeting)!

To continue the PFA’s vital role to support the school and provide social events, new volunteers are needed for 2024. Committee positions will be elected at this AGM and will be in place for one year until the 2024 AGM. I am sure previous members will be happy to provide assistance and support. The commitment is shared across the committee, class liaisons and the wider school community.

In 2024 the following roles will be vacant: 2 x Co-President, 1 x Treasurer.  The committee cannot be formed unless the roles are filled so please consider assisting so the many enjoyable events can continue next year. For any information reach out to anyone in the PFA (Matt Lumsden, Rosaline Natale, Wes Folkdard, Fiona Flynn or any general PFA members) or Margaret Carlei. Please also refer to the short role description at the end of this article

PFA ROLE OVERVIEWS

President
  • Coordinates the activities of the PFA ensuring all activities are delegated throughout the school community.
  • The President chairs the PFA meeting allowing everyone to be heard equally, ensures the objectives of the PFA are considered during discussion, approves the PFA newsletter entries, maintains stock and supply of PFA items and liaises with the Parish regarding PFA events.
  • This position can be shared by two Co-Presidents.
Vice-President
  • Assists the President in the above role.
  • Steps in to undertake the President’s role if the President is not available.
  • This position is not required when there are Co-Presidents.
Secretary
  • Takes minutes of PFA meetings, circulates minutes and agendas to Committee members, coordinates PFA newsletter entries and deals with any PFA correspondence.
  • This position may also be shared between two people to ensure a secretary attends all meetings.
Treasurer
  • Takes charge of PFA monies, maintains accurate financial records of all PFA relevant receipts and expenditures, regularly banks all monies, reports on the PFA’s financial position at meetings.
  • Prepares a financial report for the AGM.
  • A knowledge in basic bookkeeping and your own computer access is helpful.
General Member
  • You can still join the PFA without taking on a formal role above.
  • General members attend all PFA meetings and assist with decision making, providing feedback, event coordination and general running of PFA activities.
  • It’s also a great way to become involved in the PFA Committee for those who want to start gently.

Other ways to get involved – be a class liaison

Each class has 2 parents who volunteer to be a class liaison – spreading the word about PFA events, taking the lead on organising the PFA event delegated to their class (with the help of the class and the PFA), and organising an end of year gift for teachers. Being a class liaison is a great way to quickly meet others in your child’s class. No experience necessary!

Rosaline, Matt and The PFA Committee
