Trials & Nominations October and November 2023:
Please download the Peninsula Student Permission details booklet here:
Fill in and submit to Mrs McPhee-Smith in the Sports Department. Please note you cannot attend trials without this mandatory paperwork.
We had an enjoyable and successful day at the Bentley 7’s Tournament, adding 3 pieces of silverware to our trophy cabinet!
Here's how we placed:
Thank you to our wonderful teachers who work extremely hard to prepare our teams and motivate them.
A massive congratulations to all SMCC students for your positive attitudes, sportsmanship, and effort. You are all to be commended as you represented the College proudly.
JSS COMPETITION:
SMCC JSS Teams played semi finals last week. We had good wins in the female touch football, volleyball, and netball. We also had good wins in the male touch football and volleyball.
This week, we head into JSS Grand Finals. Games are played at 12pm with venues to be advised.
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST OF LUCK TO:
SMCC JUNIOR SPORT PROGRAM: Wednesday Afternoons 1:17pm - 2:57pm
Year 7, 8, 9 Students (not participating in the JSS Competition) have been placed into the Junior Sport Program, which provides opportunities for students to engage in various sports options for Term 3 and Term 4.
Junior Sports Program Options:
Students participating in this program have been sent an email with all information and instructions.

SMCC JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM'S FIRST WIN!
The SMCC Junior Rugby League team competed in, and won their first game on Wednesday, 1 November against St Augustine’s. Congratulations to all who played!
SMCC SENIOR SPORT INTERHOUSE SPORTS COMPETITION:
All students are to meet in the Nazareth Pavilion every Tuesday at 1:27pm (Period 5) and are to wear their house shirts and bring a hat and water bottle.
Students who are not participating in the Interhouse Sports Competition can do Chess Club, Aspire to Teach Program, and/or Service and Justice group.
Teams will compete against other teams for house points in the following sports:
SENIOR SPORT NRL CLINICS:
Great engagement from the senior students in skills and drills delivered by the NRL on Tuesday. Thank you to the NRL for visiting our College.
CHESS CLUB:
During Senior Sport students can choose to engage in Chess Club. Mr. Peppler leads the students in a weekly chess competition.

SMCC PARKRUN TAKEOVER
SMCC is gearing up to take over Cairns parkrun on Saturday, November 11, along the Esplanade! We encourage all within the College community to participate, either as a runner or event volunteer.
parkrun is a fun and vibrant event! Students are asked to wear their SMCC Sports uniform to ensure we cover the event in a sea of maroon and green!
All SMCC participants are to meet at 7:00am at the Pirate Ship end of Cairns Esplanade.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
No mobile phones during Sport: This includes all sports groups travelling offsite and JSS teams. Students choosing to ignore these expectations will be issued with consequences as per the SMCC Behaviour Support Plan.

Please note: Our Sports program involves some groups travelling offsite therefore please avoid making appointments during Tuesday and Wednesday sports.
