PASTORAL BULLETIN

 Week 6 of Term 4, 2023

General School News

  • Odd Sock Day was very well received. Thank you to the students who donated a gold coin, together we raised $350. This money will be used to purchase non-perishable food items and added to hampers for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. So far, we have filled 24 hamper baskets of the 46 that are required. Year 7 is currently leading the way, donating 6 baskets, closely followed by Year 8.

  • Students are well underway in working on their assessments. Parents/Carers and students are encouraged to check the College Portal for assessment due dates.

  • Please be reminded that students are expected to walk their bikes and e-scooters when inside the College grounds. Students who fail to meet this expectation risk losing access to this transportation option at school.

  • Parents/Carers are required to collect their child from the College front office should they need to depart early. Students will not be sent to the stop-drop-go zone.

  • Please be advised, effective Thursday, November 16 2023, the SMCC Uniform Shop will be implementing a price increase across the range of uniform items. This necessary change is our first in five years and is driven by various factors, including inflation, rising production costs, and other operational expenses.

  • We are looking forward to the celebrations taking place in Week 7, including Presentation Evening, Sports Award Assembly, Graduation Mass, and Orientation Day. Ahead of these events, please ensure your uniform meets the College uniform requirements. It is also an excellent opportunity to purchase additional uniform items ahead of the price increases.

Regards,

Baskets have been placed in each PG room; the PG with the most donated items wins a prize.

  • Congratulations and thank you to all the Year 8 students who participated in the Bentley 7’s Rugby League, Netball and Soccer carnival on Friday. It was wonderful to see so many of students from the Year 8 cohort competing, and representing the College at these events.

Year 9

  • Welcome to Week 6!

  • The 2023 Year 9 Tie Ceremony will be held on Thursday, 23 November at the HOB from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. This ceremony marks a significant rite of passage for our Year 9 students, signifying their transition from junior schooling to the senior years at SMCC. We are pleased to announce that, netball sensation, Gabi Simpson, from The Queensland Firebirds will be our guest speaker. An official RSVP form will be email within the coming week.

  • Last week, we concluded our Junior Prefect Interviews. The interview rounds revealed a considerable amount of talent within the cohort, which has made the task of selecting the 2024 Junior Prefects challenging! We will inform the candidates of the results as soon as possible.

  • Our Year 9 Pastoral Day is scheduled at the end of the year, and students will be traveling to Yorkey's Knob. If you have not completed the Parent Slip for this event, please do so at your earliest convenience, as we need to start organising food for the students.

  • We have noticed an increased number of absences due to illness this term. We strongly urge students to continue contacting their classroom teachers when they are absent to ensure that they do not fall behind. It is also important for parents to contact classroom teachers if an extension is needed for an assessment.
