Learning Across the

Junior School

Year 4 Dissecting Flowers

In Year 4, students have the exciting opportunity to learn about the inner workings of flowers through the process of dissection. This hands-on activity not only deepens their understanding of plant anatomy, but also allows them to develop important scientific skills.

During the dissection, students carefully examine the different parts of a flower, including the petals, sepals, stamens, and pistil. They learn about the role of each part in the reproduction process and how they work together to ensure the survival of the plant species.

By observing and dissecting flowers, students can identify the various structures and their functions. They discover that the petals serve to attract pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, while the sepals protect the developing bud. The stamens, which consist of the filament and anther, produce pollen, while the pistil contains the stigma, style, and ovary, which are involved in the production of seeds.

Through this hands-on experience, students not only gain knowledge about plant anatomy, but also develop important skills such as observation, critical thinking, and attention to detail.

Junior School Tech Club

Our Junior School Tech Club have been having a great time getting hands on with the Vex Go Robotics Kits over the last few weeks! They have been constructing robots that (when finished) will be able to move, pick up objects, and then put them back down. We are building up towards an in-house competition later this term where students will have a limited time to complete a number of challenges. Bring it on!
