VCE Vocational Major Excursion - 24 October

Last week, the Year 11 VCE VM students went to the Springvale Park Special Development School to support the prep teachers in the classrooms. We had the chance to organise small-scale activities for the preppies, such as reading stories and building towers with blocks.

We especially enjoyed spending time relaxing and enjoying music with the lovely kids.

Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP)

Last week we had Sister Brigid Arthur address Years 7 to 11 at two assemblies.  She spoke passionately about her work with the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project. Sister Brigid is a Brigidine nun and has been in the order for almost seventy years. She works tirelessly for the rights of asylum seekers in and out of detention centres. BASP supports two hundred and seventy people with housing and accommodation and a further sixty with financial assistance and food items. This requires donations of $120,000 per month which is extraordinary generosity and shows the incredible needs of the marginalised.

She told several stories of the people they have assisted in dire circumstances and inspired us all at Killester to take action in support. The fundraiser we have for Christmas is to collect items for BASP and we have a list of their needs below.

  • Cooking Oil-500ml/or 1L
  • Margarine
  • Black tea bags
  • Green tea
  • Sweet biscuits
  • Honey/Jam
  • Instant noodles
  • 1kg Sugar
  • Cling wrap/Aluminium foil
  • Men’s razors/Shaving cream
  • Wettex type products
  • Laundry powder
  • Dishwashing detergent/Other cleaning products

Christmas extras including: nuts, dates, chocolates, lollies.

If you can please consider giving one of these items for your daughter to bring to school. It will be gratefully accepted by people who need some relief in this special period leading up to the hope of Christmas.

Classes have already brainstormed ideas on how to raise these goods. You can see the pride in the faces of the Year 8 students who have already filled their donation basket to overflowing.

Year 8 Activity Day - 3 November

Last week our Year 8 students had a day full of fun and engaging activities planned for them by Ms Timlin, Year 8 Student Leader and their Homeroom Teachers. It was a day for reflection, learning new skills, team building and forming stronger connections with each other.

They participated in Yoga, Just Dance, Boxing, Christmas bauble decorating, and African drumming!

It was wonderful to watch our students get involved in the various activities with so much enthusiasm throughout the day.

Year 8 Art - 8 November

Our year 8 artists have recently completed their Terracotta Crazy Critters project. They are based on the student's individual designs.
