Assembly

Next week we will be holding a Walpole Assembly for students in Years 3 - 6.  As The Farrall Centre is unavailable due to the TCE Art Exhibition the assembly will take place outside in the grounds and will commence at 2.15pm on Monday afternoon. We welcome families to attend. There will be no Wells Assembly next week.

Clemes Exams

Tuesday 7 to Friday 17 November

Please note that Clemes students will be sitting their TCE exams from Tuesday 7 November to Friday 17 November starting at 8.30am each day.  Could all families please move quietly behind Wells during this time. Please drop off and collect students in Prep - Year 2 from the Argyle Street side of Wells.

Year 5 Excursion to the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA)

Friday 10 November

On Friday 10 November, Year 5 are travelling to the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA) as a provocation for their final Inquiry, How we express ourselves. Students will explore the central idea, “Creative thinking unlocks a world of possibilities” as they look at different elements and purposes of art, consider perspective and react to different art works. Students will leave school at 9.30am and travel to MONA by bus, returning at approximately 3.10pm. Full sports uniform is required, as well as a hat, water bottle, morning tea and lunch. No lunch orders on this day. Parents are welcome to attend if they have a current Working with Vulnerable People card, however, they need to make their own way there and back. Note that for all Friends’ School volunteer activities you will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form. Please contact your class teacher if you are interested in accompanying the students on this day.

Kindergarten and Prep Learn to Swim Program

Monday 13 - Friday 17 November

The Kindergarten and Prep Learn to Swim program will be held at Friends’ Health & Fitness from Monday 13 November - Friday 17 November. Any enquiries please contact Lisa Di Venuto  or 6210 2228.

Year 6 Places of Worship Excursions

Tuesday 14 and 28 November 

To enrich and deepen our inquiry into Who we are: beliefs and values, Year 6 will walk to the Hobart Mosque and St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral on Tuesday 14 November, and to Hobart Synagogue and St David’s Cathedral on Tuesday 28 November.  Students are required to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and hat. Please apply adequate sunscreen before school and pack a raincoat as required. Clothing: students can wear their sports uniform with track pants and running shoes. Shorts are not appropriate in the Mosque. Girls are required to wear a head cloth. Please bring a light scarf that can be used to cover hair.  If a parent would like to support this excursion, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Note that for all Friends’ School volunteer activities you will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Year 4 Camps 

Wednesday 15 - Friday 17 November (one night each class)

On Wednesday 15 November the Year 4OA class will be travelling to Orana for an overnight camp, returning on Thursday 16 November. On Thursday, 16 November Year 4K class will be travelling to Orana for their overnight camp and will return on Friday, 17 November. Both classes aim to achieve similar outcomes from their camp experience. Additional information about the camp has been sent through Operoo. 

Morris Showcase Concert

Tuesday 21 November

The Friends’ School Music Department warmly invites parents and friends to the Morris Showcase Concert on Tuesday 21 November from 6.00-7.00pm in The Farrall Centre. Entry is free and all are welcome! The Morris Showcase is a celebration of some of the incredible musical ensembles we have in the Primary Years. Ensembles that will be performing at this concert include:  

  • Year 3 Strings
  • Morris Strings
  • Morris Majors (Years 3 and 4 Choir)
  • Morris Maestros (Years 5 and 6 Choir)
  • Morris Chamber Strings
  • Year 5 Band

Year 6 Camp

Thursday 23 November - Friday 24 November 

On Thursday 23 November, Year 6 will be attending an overnight camp at South Arm. This camp concludes their Outdoor Education program in the Primary Years, as well as focusing on spirituality, organisation and community. They will depart school on Thursday morning at 9.00am and return by 2.30pm on Friday 29 November. Students may be collected from the drive through on Friday from 2.40pm. Additional information about camp has been provided to parents through Operoo. If you have any questions please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Kinder - Year 2 Sports Day

Friday 24 November

The Kinder to Year 2 Sports Day will be held on Friday 24 November on the school's bottom green from 12.00pm - 1.30pm. Parents and families are welcome to attend. Children are to wear their sports uniform and ensure they have their hat and a water bottle for the event. A program will be sent home closer to the event. Year 3 Excursion to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

Friday 24 November 

As part of our unit 'Sharing the planet’ students will visit the memorial plaques around Legacy Park and the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. We will walk from school to the Gardens via the Domain. Students will learn about the significance of the plaques and the trees on the Domain. In the Botanical Gardens children will use their mapping skills to visit significant trees and areas. We will visit Pete’s Patch and look at the vegetables growing and discover the importance of the site for Tasmania’s first people. We will leave school at 10.00am and return by 3.00pm.  Children will need their hat, water bottle, lunch and some snacks. We will take sunscreen but if your child has a certain one please pack this for your child to use. Children will pack ventolin or epipen in their bags. Other medications that will be used on the day please advise us beforehand.

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: morrisadmin@friends.tas.edu.au ) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
