Just Leadership Day

On Wednesday 8 November our 2024 Service Leaders: Riley S, Jack B, Kooper H and Joshua T attended the Just Leadership Day which focused on the great work of our main Catholic charitable agencies. This day provided a wonderful opportunity for student leaders from different schools to come together, to learn about Catholic Social Teaching, servant leadership and the great work of CARITAS Australia, Vinnies and Catholic Mission. Our students also had time to start planning practical ways they can support these agencies back at the College in 2024 through fundraising, and awareness-raising events and activities. Watch this space because they have some exciting ideas!

EREA Camps

On Thursday 2 November, a number of our Year 9 and 10 students underwent training with leaders from EREA Camps so they could host a Kids Afternoon Out with Mount Carmel College students on Thursday 9 November, for underprivileged primary school students. Our students were a credit to the College, showing empathy and understanding for their young partners as they engaged in a range of activities after school on Thursday. Some of our students have subsequently volunteered to become leaders at a weekend EREA camp coming up this Saturday. We will be expanding this program in 2024 and any students in Year 9 through to Year 11 who are interested participating in future afternoons and camps are welcome to email me to register their interest.

Remembrance Day

Today, on Friday 10 November, we paused as a College to remember those soldiers who died fighting to protect our nation. Lt Ed Boutchard (a past SVC student) spoke about the sacrifices made by local Tasmanian soldiers, including his family members. Our 2024 Service Leaders laid poppies under our flags before Mr Jack Machin played the Last Post and The Rouse for us. We had a Catafalque Party of five who were posted at the corners of our stage, facing outwards, resting on arms, to show that the dead are now at peace.

Bethlehem House

This term we are fundraising for Bethlehem House. Items have already started to come in which is wonderful. We have purchased some brown paper bags for Junior School classes to decorating, so each recipient gets a personalised, individually decorated gift bag. Thank you to the Junior School classes for their help with this. We are looking for a range of items in order to make someone’s Christmas just a little brighter than expected. We thank everyone for your support of this important activity.
