Year 6 Leadership

Year 6 Initiative Physical Education Group

In early term 3 the Year 6’s formed groups to target issues we thought needed resolving. Our group focused on the importance of Physical Education. Our goal was to teach the younger grades of the school the long-term benefits and effects of exercise.

During leadership sessions we had come across different problems about how we could run short activities and exercises that would not just be educational but would also be fun and inviting for the younger kids to express their thoughts and feelings about exercise.

During each session we ran with the Foundations and 1/2s we would start with an informative Powerpoint followed by a short quiz revising what they had just learnt. Finally, we would go outside to play some outdoor games such as: octopus, fruit salad and other fun activities.

Along the way we documented students' thoughts and opinions about the sessions. For example: Foundations stated “Better than the teachers”, also, “Very cool.” The 1/2s claimed, “Better than class,” and “was the best thing ever!” Finally, “extremely fun and we learnt a lot”.
