The Lab Report

This year we have been given a new grant from EACH for Healthy Eating. Last year we managed an advertising slogan competition with a photo shoot. This year we have been given funds for some new cooking equipment and we are going to give these items a test drive with a Cooking Club. This Cooking Club will be done by a few students in each year level to test some new recipes and tools to see if we can improve on our Term 2 Cooking Chemistry unit in Science.

This week the Foundation students had their turn with 18 students coming to the Staff Room on Tuesday morning to make Fruit Pops. We used frozen banana, mango, pineapple, strawberries and fruits of the forest mixed with water and blended it up into a smooth paste. Students poured and used spoons to fill their fruit pop silicone moulds and then we set them in the fridge to set. Come Wednesday lunchtime they were ready to eat. While they were not to everyone’s taste, I was so proud of everyone for trying them. We had A LOT of happy students (as you can see in our photos) and I definitely think this activity will be a keeper.

Thank you to Gina and Anvi in Year 6 for their help with photographs and general sous chef tasks, it made the club run much smoother to have some extra pairs of hands.

This week Friday the Year 1s will be having their turn, so keep an eye out in the newsletter next week for the photos from their Cooking Club adventures. We will be making nut-free chocolate bliss balls!
