From the Principal
Dear LPS Families and Friends,
Canberra Camp
By the time you receive this, our Grade 6 students should be close to returning from an unforgettable camp in Canberra, where they immersed themselves in a range of educational and exciting activities. They visited Parliament House, explored Questacon, and participated in a behind-the-scenes tour at the National Museum. A highlight of the camp was the moving Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial. Our students displayed the utmost respect during this solemn occasion, laying wreaths to honour those who served. Their respectful behavior and heartfelt participation filled us with pride, making this experience a truly memorable and meaningful moment for everyone involved.
While camp is an amazing experience for students, it is a very long week for staff. Staff on camp are essentially on duty or on call for the entire week and even when they are asleep it is with one eye open. Thank you to all the staff who attended the camp. Activities like this can only happen with careful planning, support, and staff spending time away from their own families to provide these opportunities for students.
Entry Routines
This week we introduced Entry routines with our Prep - Grade 5 students. An entry routine captures how we want students to enter a learning space and begin their first task. Entry routines are important for schools because they establish a structured and consistent start to every class, which promotes a positive learning environment. They help students transition smoothly into a learning mindset, maximising instructional time from the moment they enter the classroom.
By creating a predictable and orderly entry routine, schools can maintain safety, build positive relationships, and foster a sense of belonging. This consistency reinforces high expectations, reduces disruptions and the unknown for students, and sets a focused tone for the day, ultimately enhancing overall student engagement and academic success.
I have enjoyed observing students enacting our entry routine and have noticed a very settled and quick start for all classes. Be sure to ask your child about their entry routine and how it makes them feel.
Student transfer
At the end of each year, we say farewell to our grade 6 students as they leave for secondary school. We also have many families that move house and need to transfer to a school closer to home. If you know that your child will be enrolling in a new school for the 2024 school year, please let the office know ASAP to assist with our planning.
Father's Day
Thank you to all the prep dads and special visitors who attended our special Father's Day morning today. It was great to see so many smiling faces. I hope you all have a wonderful day on Sunday and enjoy your gifts from the Father's Day stall.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Kristine Roose \ Assistant Principal
