Primary School Leadership Day
On Monday the 12th of August, a handful of Year 9 students took the day to run activities with the Grade five students at Diamond Creek Primary School. We were given a timetable on how the day would run as well as a booklet on how each activity worked. We started in a big group to run a quick game called ‘Who Boss Not I Boss.’ Some of us joined in and the others explained and led the game.
After we finished that game, we split the DCPS students into two groups. We organised a couple of inside actives such as guessing the leader and making the tallest tower out of dry noodles and marshmallows. During recess some of us went outside to join in with the primary school students games.
In the second session we facilitated more leadership games, such as Chuck the Chicken and International Jewel Heist. The students really enjoyed playing these game and you could really see them developing their leadership skills.
Before we all left, we handed each student a certificate of participation as well as individually thanking the students for making the day as incredible as it was. We then headed back to school and joined in our period 5 classes.

This year DVC staff and students volunteered to help out at the Wattle Festival on the 25th of August.
The DVC volunteers helped people get off the steam train, assisted with the huge line for the steam train and gave out maps showing the activities happening at the festival.
We worked in two shifts: 9:30 am to 12:30 pm shift and then12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. We all had a great day.

Year 9
On the 30th of July I was asked a member of the 2024 Eltham Youth Council (EYC) to attend the 2024 Banyule Youth Summit Report Card on behalf of Vicki Ward.
I attended with another member of the EYC as well as the leader of the council, Nick Melitsis (see photo). It was great to attend this event as we got to hear what the Banyule youth services plans on achieving within the upcoming year and what has been achieved so far, as well as some organisations which provide support services to minoritised youth. While we were there, we listened to a range of speakers discuss on what the Banyule youth
services has achieved within the past 12 months, some of those are but not limited to: Delivering a parent workshop on body image to better equip parents to support their young people with body image concerns, a new Gender Equality school workshop to be delivered in schools throughout the year, also that Youth Projects attended the annual Youth Fest to deliver health promotion messaging about alcohol and other drugs. Overall it was a great opportunity to get to attend.

Climate Action for Kid Conference- Edendale Farm
On Wednesday the 4th of September, we went to Edendale farm for an Environmental and Climate Action for Kids Conference.
When we got there, we listened to a few people speak, then a band called ‘Junkyard beats’ came in to preform for us all.
We were split up into 3 groups to listen to some presentations. We listened to Diamond Creek Primary School, Banyule Primary school, and Kangaroo Ground Primary School talk about what their schools to learn about climate change.
After that, a man came in to teach us about climate change, and used the climate dogs to help us understand better. We also got some time throughout the day to go for a walk around the farm to see some animals. We saw some goats, (Rosie and Agatha), some ponies, (Peggy and Sue), guinea pigs, chickens, sheep, and we also saw a 20 minute old lamb, as well as so much more.
At the end of the day, we listened to a final presentation, then came back to school. Overall, the day was very fun and educational. Thank you to Jackie for taking us.
