FUTURE OLYMPIANS?
SECONDARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
By Steve Kelly (Secondary Sports Co-ordinator)
We had a nice sunny day out at Casey Fields, where it is always windy, but the track was looking magnificent in the sunshine! Students from Year 7 - 12 hopped onto buses and filled the grandstand in their House colours for our 2024 Secondary House Athletics. We had an amazing team of staff and student helpers running all of our events and we raced through 120 events on the day! Staff were very happy to see some lovely parents had set up their coffee van ready to serve up hot drinks all day.
Students ran some impressive times, threw heavy things a very long way and jumped higher and further than most of us could dream of. We had a wonderful day together out at the track, celebrating participation and giving a chance for our students to shine in their athletics events. A big thank you to our staff team who officiated all of the events so well and made the day run smoothly. From here, students will be selected based on the results from House Athletics to be part of our BHCS team going to compete against other Victorian Christian School at the CSEN Athletics Championships on September 12th. Keep your eye out for more information!

YEAR 3-6 PRIMARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
By Simon Broecker (Primary Sports Co-ordinator)
Finally the day had arrived for our Year 3-6 Primary Athletics Day at Casey Fields Athletics Track. Our Primary school students came flooding into school wearing their House colours ready to compete and have a great day of track and field events and with the current Olympics going on in Paris students were extra keen to get involved.
Weather wise, it was a mild start to the day and shortly after 9.30am and just as the school buses began to arrive the sun appeared for what turned out to be a perfect sunny day for athletics, without a breath of wind. A rarity for this time of year.
Students had been learning and practising for our athletics carnival in PE classes, with lessons in circular relay, discus, shot put, high jump and sprints. This certainly helped build both confidence and momentum going into our carnival. It also made for sensationally close racing on the day.
Despite some nail-biting moments, Wattle House emerged triumphant, securing the overall day winner and name on the new perpetual shield that will be on display in our upper primary school building after engraving is completed. A huge congratulations to all our students for their exceptional performances and for bringing such fantastic energy to the day! In the coming week or so students who have made the CSEN team will be notified. They will represent BHCS later in the term, on Friday 13th September at Lakeside Stadium.
A special thanks to all our Parent Helpers, Year 10 students, Dion (running the electronic timing gates) all of whom donated their time on the day to help ensure the smooth running of the program.
GO BHCS!
