Specialist Feature News:
Selamat Siang,
These past few weeks in Performing Arts students across the school have been involved with a wide variety of music and drama related activities. We have enjoyed exploring instruments, and using our voices to sing through new and familiar songs which relate to the themes of friendship, courage and hard work as the world united in harmony
celebrated the Games of the 34th Olympiad.
Our Year 1 and 2 students learned to sing Topi Saya Bundar (My Hat is Round) our Indonesian Day song to perform in the courtyard on Thursday 15th August. It was certainly Pemandangan yang bagus (A great sight ).
In the middle years, our singers and dancers worked together to devise a group performance of two theme songs, "A million dreams" or "Reach" (Gloria Estefan) using instruments available to accompany themselves whilst they performed. Students were able to display their creativity and express their own desire to reach for their dreams and goals through the lyrics of their song.
Senior students in Years 5 and 6 took a more dramatic approach to the Olympic theme that the guided inquiry units were focusing on. "A day in the life of an Olympic athlete" is the task. Students will write a short script to perform as one of their favourited sporting heroes.
This week we have been preparing the ground-work for the upcoming performances over the coming weeks. Experimenting with pre-scripted monologues and stories to get into character, and to adapt our tone of voice, actions and facial expressions to suit the story we tell.
Finally, two weeks on from the spectacular event of Mount Pleasant's Got Talent 2024, I would like to express my thanks to all the finalists and their families for their contributions of musical talent which entertained our community so very well. We were so proud of all of you and look forward to continuing to celebrate the Performing Arts in the months to come. In particular we anticipate the End of Year Concert being a memorable event in the life of our community at MPRPS.
Indonesian Day
Yesterday saw a sea of red and white with pops of batik! Indonesian Day is a chance for students to learn and engage with Indonesian culture through games, sports, stories and so much more. We were very lucky to have Bu Ningsih and Bu Ashanti from Sanggar Lestari and several parent helpers to support classes. Terima Kasih parent helpers, Bu Winda and Bu Asteria for your support!
Terima Kasih,
