DISTRICT ATHS THIS FRIDAY -                          Good luck to St Joseph's Athletics Team!

Congratulations to all Year 3 to 6 students who took part in our athletics trials across this term in the events of Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Discus, Shot Put, Hurdles, 100m, 200m, 800m and 1500m.  St Joseph's Athletics Team selections have now been finalised and the Operoo and hard copy program with each students' events was sent out last Friday.  The selection for these events is steered by a set of criteria that requires a lengthy process.  Attached is the criteria for selection for School Sports Teams such as the Athletics Team.

For those in the Aths Team, please read through the details correctly from the Operoo to ensure that your child is on the correct bus on Friday morning in time to arrive for their events in time.  If your child is no longer able to compete in their events, please email me on jennyt@sjsorrento.catholic.edu.au  as soon as possible.

Friday's day at the District Athletics is bound to be a great experience for our students as they compete against the other nine schools of the Phillip District and explore all the different skills they have.  Feel free to come along to Mornington Athletics Centre, to support our students.

Our Students Engaging in Community Sport

I was very fortunate to see some of our young junior students as they enjoyed playing in their basketball teams last Saturday. It reinforced how much being a part of a team assists not just in a child's fitness and skill development, but also in their social and emotional skills, their ability to work in a team and the opportunity to develop friendships that stretch beyond our St Joey's playground.

Below we have two other opportunities to become involved in GIRLS SPORT in the community.  Take a look!

NEW Sorrento Girls Basketball Team due to start in October

A couple of our St Joeys mums are starting a girls U8s Sorrento basketball team for the upcoming summer season.  This is ideal for girls from Prep or Year 1. If you’re daughter is interested in starting to play this summer season (Term 4), please contact Nat (0430623876) or Kerry (0426241541).
