Dear Families,

Child Safety

It is pleasing to have calmer weather this week. We seem to experiencing more extreme weather in recent times. In the event of extreme weather, we take our directives from the State Government and MACS.  We did not receive any instructions to close the school last week. We have processes and actions in place to keep students safe in extreme wet, windy and hot weather.  As we are in a bushfire zone, the school needs to close on days classified as "Catastrophic." We will always notify families of school closures as soon as we are aware of the situation. If you choose to keep your children home from school due to extreme weather just communicate this through our regular methods such as Operoo, email or phone.

We have a legal obligation to know where all enrolled students are each school day so please contact the office if your child is not at school for any reason.

Storms often hit at the end of a school day. We will keep students who are walking, at school in dangerous conditions and call you for further instructions.

Child Protection Week

Last week was Child Protection Week. Students participated in a range of activities. National Child Protection Week raises awareness about the community’s collective response to the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people, now and into the future.  In 2024, National Child Protection Week will continue to champion the message ‘Every child in every community needs a fair go’ and complement it with the theme ‘Every conversation matters’. • Conversations are powerful tools to keep children and young people safe and well. They help schools and communities understand issues, craft solutions, and empower children and young people.

Au revoir Kamica

Kamica  finished her time here at St Joseph's after six years and left for Queensland for some new adventures this morning. Thank you to Kamica who has been such a dedicated and passionate Learning Support Officer. Kamica built strong relationships with all the students she worked with and kne their strengths and challenges.

We will miss her but wish here every happiness with her new life in sunny Queensland.

Bus cards

Students catching the school bus have been issued with student cards. These are to be attached to their bags and children will need to "touch on' whenever they hop on the bus. We will start using them next term. Sandra will be on leave from today until the end of term. Ventura has supplied us with other drivers until the end of term.

School Improvement Surveys

All families received an email containing a link to the survey on Monday 2 September. The survey is open until the last day of term. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Centrelink Health Care Card Holders

If any family holds a Centrelink Health Care Card, please contact Lucy in the office as you are eligible for CSEF and School Savings Bonus for 2025.

Canteen

Yet another company who was planned to supply us with lunch orders has pulled out. If you are aware of a local business who would like to supply lunch orders once a week,  or if you have other ideas on how we can provide this service to families, please email me.
