100 Days of School

Congratulations to all of our fabulous Foundation Students for making it to 100 Days of School today!

To celebrate the occasion, our students dressed up to the theme of “100” and participated in a variety of fun and engaging activities centred around "100." The celebration also provided a chance to reflect on the strong foundation of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning that has been built over these first 100 days.

We are incredibly proud of our Foundation students and grateful for the support of our dedicated teachers and families who have helped make this milestone possible. Here’s to many more days of learning, discovery, and success!

New Zealand Principals Visit CNPS: Learning and Exchange

Today, we welcomed five principals from schools in New Zealand. Their visit was part of an educational tour to explore innovative teaching and learning practices and gain insights into the Victorian Government Education System.

The principals visited various classrooms, observing our teachers in action and interacting with our enthusiastic students. They were impressed by the creativity and collaboration they witnessed, noting the positive and inclusive atmosphere that defines our school community.

Our guests asked many thoughtful questions, keen to understand how our curriculum aligns with the Victorian standards and how we support diverse learning needs. They were also interested in our professional development programs for teachers and how we foster continuous improvement in teaching practices.

School Council Meeting Wednesday 7 August

Our School Council met last night for our 5th meeting for the year and welcomed our newest member, Michelle Barnett, parent of Bernie FA and Garcia 56CB. The meeting commenced with a report from TeamKids presented by Nick, Partnership Manager and Regional Manager, Nat. Within the meeting, we looked at the mid-cycle monitoring of the school’s Annual Implementation Plan and recent NAPLAN results, in particular our school’s results in comparison to similar and network schools. We also approved the go-ahead for school drinking fountains to be replaced using the remaining funds for the refurbishment of the junior school toilets funded by the Victorian Schools Building Authority. School Council approved the spend of an additional $13500 to replace all drinking troughs throughout the school.

Camps and Time in Lieu for Staff

Following the success of our recent Year 3/4 Camp at Phillip Island, School Council would like to remind our generous school community of the vital role your support plays in making these enriching experiences possible. A significant portion of the funds raised during our 2024 Fete goes towards supplementing the additional costs of time in lieu for our dedicated staff who attend these camps.

Each staff member participating in a three-day camp works a minimum of 23 hours beyond their regular work hours. This calculation does not include getting up overnight to attend to any home-sick or unwell children. On average, nine staff members from CNPS attend each camp, ensuring our students have a safe and enjoyable experience.

The introduction of time in lieu for school camps, as part of the 2022 Victorian Government Schools Agreement, acknowledges the extra effort our staff puts in during these events. Without utilising some of the funds raised through the Fete, the school would not be financially positioned to maintain an annual camp program. This includes activities like the Foundation Breakfast, Year 1 Dinner, Year 2 Sleepover, and the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 offsite Camps.

We are immensely grateful for the ongoing support of our school community. Your contributions ensure we can continue to offer these valuable learning opportunities for our students. Thank you for helping us make a difference in their education!

Parent/Carer Survey Carlton North Outside School Hours Care

The Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program, TeamKids, is a service provided for our families at CNPS. The School Council is responsible for making decisions regarding establishing or operating an OSHC service. The Education Subcommittee and School Council President Rebecca Slater are responsible for making decisions and monitoring the service.

We value the feedback from our CNPS families and ask that you please take the time to answer the short survey:LinkWe ask that all families please complete this survey whether your child/ren attends the OSHC service or not, as this will provide us with valuable feedback. The survey should take 1-5 mins of your time.

2024 Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent/Carer Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

We sent you an invitation to complete the survey via email through Compass yesterday. If you have misplaced this, please reach out and we can resend this invitation to you.

The Parent/Carer Opinion Survey will remain open online until Friday 30 August 2024.

Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.

The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.

The survey is available in English and 10 other languages: Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. If you require assistance in another language, resources may be available for you. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if you require assistance in another language.

Staff News

Congratulations to our gorgeous Susie and her partner Jeremy, who eloped in Italy during their recent trip to Bali, Europe and New York!!

Congratulations to Jacqui and her husband Terrence, who welcomed their baby girl last Friday evening. Despite all the chatter about her being small, she weighed a perfectly average 3.2kg. Jacqui and Terrence brought her home on Monday, and everyone is doing really well. We look forward to Jacqui and the baby visiting us soon and await the news of her yet-to-be-decided name.

Inclusion Outreach Team

We have a team of teachers working with our Inclusion Outreach Coach, Ashlie Hassall to audit and then further implement inclusive teaching and learning practices across the school. Yesterday, the team spent the day developing a rubric for teaching teams to audit the planning documentation across the school. The team also developed a set of actions for the remainder of the year including a handbook that outlines all inclusive practices implemented at CNPS to provide differentiation and reasonable adjustments for individual students at CNPS.
