BioDiesel Excursion

Year 12 Chemistry

Year 12 Chemistry students had an incredible excursion at the Victorian Space Science Education Centre. It was a full-day event, starting bright and early at 8 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. with two short breaks. The students were highly enthusiastic and thoroughly engaged, especially while exploring advanced spectroscopy machines at the centre.

Their excitement was so palpable that they barely noticed how tired they were becoming. Once they returned, it was clear that they were thrilled with the experience, despite the long day. During the excursion, they had the opportunity to work with NMR, gas chromatography, and IR spectroscopy machines for quantitative and qualitative analysis of unknown samples. This hands-on experience was an integral part of the VCE Chemistry Unit 4 AOS 2 and AOS 3 curriculum.

Overall, the excursion was a great success and will be a memorable highlight for the Year 12 students as they approach the end of their school journey.
