Werribee Zoo Excursion
Year 11 Biology
On Monday the 2nd of September the Year 11 Biology students went on an excursion to Werribee Zoo. The day started with an educational program investigating adaptations of the Eastern Grey Kangaroo that allow it to survive in Australian conditions. In the program we discussed how the landscape of the western plains changed due to colonisation, as well as Aboriginal Perspectives and Cultures. Due to the strong winds and rain, we were unable to complete the data collection aspect of the program but discussed how field scientists would set up a quadrat to assess environmental and ecosystem health.
Following the session we went on the safari bus. This gave us a chance to see the animals up close and personal in an open range setting. Despite being cold and wet the animals were still out and about, especially the giraffes who began following the bus (it was probably feeding time). Overall, it was an awesome day and a great experience that demonstrated a real-world application of VCE Biology - Unit 2 AOS 2.
