Dear Parents and Carers,

Today we are celebrating a very beautiful feast day in our Church: the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. In our fast paced world, it is easy to feel disconnected or overwhelmed. The Sacred Heart of Jesus offers us a regular anchor, as it reminds us that we are deeply known and profoundly loved. This feast day, reminds us of Jesus’ humanity and the significance of his sacrifice. Jesus suffered, he felt pain, he literally laid down his life and set his heart upon us. It is our turn to pick up what God has given us and share it with the world. Let us open our hearts and share Christ’s love.

This morning during whole school prayer our students celebrated the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with the following reflection and prayer.

When we think of a heart, we think of love. The Sacred Heart is a special picture  of Jesus' heart, showing us that his love for us is completely full, bursting, and on  fire! Sometimes at school or at home, we can feel tired, overwhelmed, or like  things are just too hard. Today, Jesus invites all of us to come to him. He promises  that his heart is a safe, gentle place where we can rest when we are tired, and  where we are always loved exactly as we are.

Loving Jesus,

We thank you for gathering us here today. We thank you for your Sacred Heart,  which is always open and full of love for every single one of us. When we are  having a tough day, remind us that we can rest in your friendship. Open our  hearts now to listen to your words, and help us to share your gentle love with our  families and friends.

Amen

Refugee week

Next week is national Refugee Week and this year carries a special historical weight. It marks the 40th anniversary of Refugee Week. The 2026 Theme is A Million Stories. This week is a moment to reflect on that milestone and to celebrate the richness that refugees bring to our community.

Each story is unique. Each one is powerful. And together, they shape the Australia we all call home today. This is about more than just a number; one person’s journey influences the lives of many others; children, grandchildren, and future generations who leave their unique mark on our shared story.

Refugee Week is a deeply significant time for us to pause, reflect, and put our Catholic faith into action by honouring the courage, resilience, and contributions of people who have sought safety and a new beginning in our country. As Catholics, we are guided by Jesus’ own words: "I was a stranger and you welcomed me." Pope Francis regularly reminds us that refugees are not just numbers or statistics, but brothers and sisters to be protected and loved.

At Mother Teresa, we are incredibly proud to support our refugee families. They are an integral part of our vibrant school community, enriching our lives with their diverse cultures, unique perspectives, and inspiring determination.
