A day filled with love, laughter and 'grand' friends
We were delighted to welcome our wonderful grandparents and special loved ones to our Junior School Grandparents' and Special Friends’ celebration this afternoon.
Students and their guests enjoyed a variety of fun and engaging activities, including reading together, drawing portraits, painting and colouring in, playing board games, completing puzzles, beading bracelets, and, of course, dressing up and snapping pictures in the photo booth.
Guests were also treated to a beautiful performance by our Year 3/4 Choir, who sang The Quartermaster's Store, as well as lovely musical showcases across Junior School classrooms.
Thank you to our guests for sharing in the laughter, games, stories and special moments. Your love and support mean the world to our College community.
Under the sea we go | Year 1 Marine Discovery Centre excursion
On Thursday 9 April, the Year 1 classes enjoyed a fun-filled excursion to the Marine Discovery Centre.
Students began their adventure on the foreshore, teaming up with IMAS scientists to help collect a particular species of crab – and they were everywhere. The exploration continued inside, where students moved through the tanks and viewing pools to observe a fascinating range of marine creatures up close. Feeding time was a clear favourite, with many students deciding that even the sharks were suprisingly cute!
After lunch, everyone headed into the classroom for three hands-on activities. Students created their own dioramas, experimented with glow-in-the-dark artwork and watched fascinating footage captured earlier that morning of the sea life living beneath the jetty.
It was a fantastic day of discovery, curiosity and learning about the needs of plants and animals in marine habitats.
Year 6 blasts off into the wonders of space
Our Year 6 students have taken a cosmic leap into hands-on discovery, creating solar system models that transformed their classroom into a miniature universe.
Using a mix of creative materials and scientific thinking, students explored the structure of the solar system as they modelled planets, moon phases, celestial bodies and the sun through detailed diagrams, interactive builds and PowerPoint displays that were 'out of this world!'
As part of their Earth Science studies, they’ve also been investigating how Earth’s position in relation to the sun creates the patterns we see every day, from the cycle of day and night to the changing seasons throughout the year.
The Year 6s showcased their discoveries with our younger students in the Junior School last Wednesday afternoon, which sparked plenty of curiosity, excitement and wide-eyed wonder. Great work, Year 6!
Easter recycling challenge – now that's a wrap!
Congratulations to our Junior School students, who collected nearly three kilograms of foil for recycling. That’s a lot of chocolate unwrapped and a fantastic effort toward reducing waste.
A quick reminder: foil can be recycled as long as it’s scrunched into a ball larger than a golf ball. This helps it stay in the recycling stream and be transformed into new aluminium products instead of ending up in landfill.
Top collectors:
- 1st place: Year 6 Wattle – 534g
- 2nd place: Year 4 Bluegum – 500g
- 3rd place: Year 4 Myrtle – 480g
Special award:
Most creative foil ball presentation: Year 6 Huon Pine
