This week our year 3 and 5 students have worked through the National Assessment of Literacy and Numeracy tests (NAPLAN). Students commenced with a writing activity on Wednesday and on Thursday they undertook the reading activities. (Today there was a catch up session for students who missed a session.) On Monday there will be Language Conventions, on Tuesday, Numeracy assessments and on Wednesday, another catch up session. Students access these assessments using an online platform and we have been able to operate this space with relative smoothness, with the support of staff and our technical team.
At the start of each school year, we ask families to go into their COMPASS app and make their parent contributions and payments, update contact details as required and provide consent for photography and local excursions. From term 2 it is our expectation that these are all complete and children without the consent for a local excursion will remain at school accessing their learning program in another space. Please check you have done this.
We have the benefit of visiting curriculum consultants who work across the school supporting our teachers and their capacity to engage their students. Coby Reynolds is a technology expert and works in a support role with our teachers developing their use of technology in the classrooms and learning spaces. Linda Golding is working in the junior school with teachers in our early years literacy program. She models lessons, coaches staff and helps to foster the implementation of our Literacy Instructional model. Our phonics approach, reading program and updated spelling instruction are all elements of instruction linked to these important programs.
On Tuesday our teaching staff completed their 2025 Professional Practice Day (PPD) and many teams visited other schools, work was done on our French program, extension programs for mathematics were refined and teams completed planning of assessments, preparation of curriculum and looked at pedagogical approaches considering the new Victorian Teaching and Learning model (VTML2.0)
2024 Annual report
Each year an annual report is prepared and made available to our community. The 2024 Annual report will be shared on March 26th at 9.15am in the SLC, followed by a morning tea. This is an important opportunity to celebrate and recognise the work done during the 2024 school year and share in the plans for the 2025 year and beyond.
The Parents' Committee will hold their Annual General Meeting on Monday 17th March (this coming Monday) from 9.00am – 10.30am. At the AGM they will report on their profit and loss for 2024, elect officer holders and share fundraising goals for 2025.
This week we have been visited by the independent auditor appointed by the Department of Education to look at business and governance operations of the school. The auditor looks at documentation, processes and management practices, and prepares a report for School Council and for the school to consider, reinforce and implement. Many thanks to our administration team, lead by Megan Barclay our business manager, for their important work in this space.
Our year 1 and 2 students have settled quickly into their new learning spaces, and we are now waiting for major works to commence in the junior school building.
Next week is Francophonie week - a time for French speakers to celebrate their language and culture, and for non-French speakers to discover the Francophone world, with numerous events held globally.
At CJC, multiple events like Ambassadeur en Herbe (Debate Competition) , the reading Competition (leve ta voix), the French Film Festival excursion and a special Assembly will celebrate Francophonie week. The EFM will also run some free lunch activities for students in week 9.
End of term 1 arrives at 2.30pm on Friday 4th April. Please remember to collect your children early and reunite yourself with any lost items from our growing collection of wayward items in the lost property boxes in the main building.
Term 2 commences on Tuesday 22nd April.
Have a lovely weekend all.
