Year 1/2
Wow! It has been an exciting start to the school year! The Year 1/2 students have been working hard to make every minute matter.
Literacy
Students are developing their reading stamina by making predictions about events, characters, and ideas before and during reading. They are also strengthening their decoding, word recognition, and fluency skills, which help them become more independent readers. Students are learning how to make connections to that deepen their understanding and engagement with stories.
In Writing, students have been exploring the structure of a recount to retell the events of their language experiences. Students have spent a day at the ‘beach’, ‘flown’ on a plane to Ohio, created bubble wands, made iced Milo and sailed seven seas to hunt for treasure.
Maths
Year 1 students have been working on recognising, representing, and ordering numbers to 120. They are practising skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, creating patterns, and comparing object lengths.
Year 2 students are exploring numbers up to 1000, learning to partition and regroup them. They are identifying patterns, using calendars to track dates, and reading time to the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour.
Developmental Play
Students have been enjoying Developmental Play, building friendships and fine motor skills through hands-on activities. From construction and crafting to role-playing and problem-solving, students explore their interests while developing creativity, teamwork, and resilience.
Buddies
Year 1/2 and Year 5/6 students have been enjoying their Buddy Program, which promotes positive friendships and social connections across year levels. The older students have taken on the role of mentors, guiding their younger buddies through fun activities that promote teamwork, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
We look forward to seeing these connections continue to grow throughout the year!
Student Voice Leaders
On Wednesday 5th March, Year 1/2 students had a special area assembly to vote for their student voice leaders. All candidates spoke with great confidence, and provided excellent reasons on why they should be elected.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent their year levels.
Year 1 - Ivy P, Gwynethfy S
Year 2 - Bethel MR, Andrew L
