Prep Classroom News

What a busy time we have been having in the Prep classroom.  The students continue to work hard on their phonics and their writing.  They are recognising simple sentences with a who/what doing/when/where.  In Math the students are learning to read and write numerals to 10.

On Monday 17th March we celebrated St Patrick's Day.  The Prep students worked together with their Year 6 Buddies and completed a Shamrock atcivity where they wrote different sentences in each of the leaves.

Kitchen Garden Program with Grade 3/4

Our students have been busy in the Kitchen Garden Program, learning essential skills in food safety, seasonal planting, and the incredible flavors of native Australian produce. Understanding how to handle food safely ensures that we can prepare and enjoy delicious meals with confidence. This term, we’ve been exploring the use of native ingredients in exciting new recipes, including lemon myrtle and wattle seed shortbread, bush salt wedges, and garlic chive, spinach and ricotta filo pastries. These dishes have been a hit, giving students a chance to experience the unique tastes of Australian bush foods while deepening their appreciation for fresh, seasonal produce straight from our garden!

The Grade 3/4 classes had a very important incursion based on recycling and composting to create healthier soil for growing food.

Super Soils was an interactive session that gave our students a greater understanding of the different methods used to recycle organic material. The program offered two hands-on activities and an educational presentation that will left the students with a well rounded knowledge of green organics recycling.

Our students have been getting their hands dirty in the best way—learning all about composting and the important role worms play in creating healthy soil! As part of our sustainability efforts, we now have a worm farm in the senior playground. This wonderful addition will help break down food scraps and create nutrient-rich compost to support our fresh produce in the Stephanie Alexander Garden Program.

We kindly remind everyone to be mindful and respect the worm farm by not disturbing the worms too much. By taking care of them, we are taking care of our environment and ensuring our garden thrives!

Education Week- St Patrick's Day Mass

Some of our Year 6 Leaders were lucky to attend the anual Education Week Mass at St Patrick's Cathedral in the City.

With nearly 300 Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools represented, it was a wonderful opportunity to come together in prayer and celebrate the beginning of the 2025 school year.

Our School Captains, Fidel and Tegan participated in the procession of School Banners, proudly representing St Augustine's.

Our Jubilee Pilgrims of Hope Ambassadors, Gabriel, Aleksandra and Miss Marissa were also blessed by Archbishop Peter Comensoli with a special message to encourage school ambassadors to bring about Hope and continue to pray and grow in their own spiritual journey.
