Grade 3

Our Grade 3 students have been enjoying the Setting Up for Success program as we kick off the school year! The students took time to explore themselves, discovering what they have in common, as well as what makes each of them unique and special. In class discussions, we also focused on our school values, rules, and structure, working together to establish class expectations and set a meaningful goal for the year.
In Literacy, students have been immersing themselves in the Reading and Writing Workshops. They’ve spent time setting up their new book boxes and learning about what a good fit book looks like for them. We’ve been exploring the habits of strong readers and writers, and students are actively working through the writing process, gathering ideas and crafting their own stories.
In Mathematics, Grade 3 students have been sharpening their number and place value skills through a variety of engaging activities. They’ve enjoyed using different strategies while playing math games that incorporate key concepts, helping them develop their problem-solving abilities in a fun and interactive way.
Our Integrated Topic for this term is Community. We began by exploring the First Nations Peoples, delving into Dreamtime stories and First Nations art. We are now shifting our focus to investigating life for the convicts and settlers who first arrived from England, giving students an engaging look at the early history of our country.
It’s been a wonderful start to the year, and we’re excited to see all the progress the students will continue to make.
