Safe Around Schools

Families let’s Move more in March! 👣  🚴  🛴 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

It may be a challenge at first but getting Active is a journey that you can take one day at a time. There are so many benefits for you and your children.

Active Travel to School is something we encourage in the City of Casey.  We encourage families to walk, ride, or scoot to/from school.  Active Travel helps to reduce congestion around a school, but it is also good for our health and wellbeing.

Let’s Go Outside!  🌳

Try making time each day for an outdoor activity that involves you and your children, walking in a local nature trail, taking a bike ride, or allow one of your children to lead the family walk in a safe area where you can discover new places, enjoy nature and be together.  Did you know we have over 390 playgrounds in the City of Casey.

Family Playtime: 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦

Get creative with your children and have them come up with activities that get everyone to join in on like playing basketball, soccer, hopscotch, or have them make up a new game!

One idea could be Eye Spy on my way to school!

Get Support:  👭 👬

Reach out to a friend, a neighbour or family member to support you in this new commitment to getting active.  If you are new to your school community reach out to your children’s friends and get to know the other parents.  Exercising with others is a great way to build social connections while staying active.

Hold hands with your children when near roads, walking through carparks, or shopping centres as these can be busier with frequently reversing and moving vehicles.

During the peak school times, roads are busier.  Children can be unpredictable, so hold hands to keep them safe.

Later this month, we celebrate National Ride2School Day, which will be on Friday 21st March, 2025

The day has helped thousands of schools to empower and enable students to get physically active on their journey to school.

This initiative provides the opportunity to create healthy habits for families and especially children!

We encourage all Casey Schools to register and participate to improve levels of Active Travel for students and families.

Within City of Casey there are schools where Active Travel rates are high and the bike sheds are full, even on the cooler days.

Well Done to all those students & families – you are making a difference!
