Year 7 Camp

3 Days of Growth, Friendship, and Resilience

Attending Year 7 camp was an absolute privilege, and it was incredible to witness the growth, resilience, and camaraderie of our students throughout the experience. From the moment we arrived, they embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and supported each other in ways that made us all proud. The camp staff were particularly impressed by their respectfulness, teamwork, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

Stepping Up to the Challenge

The activities were designed to push students beyond their limits while fostering teamwork and confidence. The mud run was a perfect example—despite being covered head to toe in mud, the students cheered each other on, proving that perseverance and encouragement go a long way.

The 'leap of faith' was another standout moment. Standing high above the ground, students had to muster the courage to jump and grab a suspended ball. It was inspiring to watch them conquer their fears, with their peers cheering them on every step of the way.

The 'flying fox' provided an adrenaline rush like no other. As students soared through the air, their faces lit up with excitement, reinforcing the idea that sometimes, taking a leap (literally!) can lead to unforgettable experiences.

On the canoeing course, teamwork was key. Paddling in sync, students learned to communicate and work together, often laughing as they navigated their way across the water.

Learning New Skills

Beyond the adventurous activities, students had the opportunity to develop practical skills. Bushcraft sessions taught them how to build shelters and understand the natural environment. It was fantastic to see their curiosity and problem-solving abilities in action.

Gathering around the campfire one evening was a highlight for many. Sharing stories, acting and singing songs created a warm and memorable atmosphere, strengthening friendships and fostering a sense of community.

Fun, Laughter, and Fierce Competition

Even after full days of activity, the energy didn’t stop. Trivia nights became a battleground of knowledge, with students especially loving the song trivia round. Their excitement was infectious as they belted out lyrics and debated song titles with their teams.

One of the most intense moments of camp? The musical chairs war. What started as a fun game quickly turned into a thrilling showdown, with students showcasing impressive reflexes and determination. Laughter, competitive spirit, and a few dramatic dives made it an unforgettable experience.

A Camp to Remember

Throughout camp, our Year 7 students showed remarkable resilience, kindness, and a willingness to challenge themselves. They supported one another, made lasting friendships, and demonstrated a level of respect that did not go unnoticed by the camp staff. Representing Scoresby Secondary College with pride.

Watching them grow in confidence, courage, and teamwork was truly rewarding. We are so proud of each and every student for the way they embraced camp, and we know they will carry these lessons and memories with them for years to come.

Thank you to all the staff that gave up their free time to make sure the students had such a wonderful time. Thank you to all the lovely staff at camp Rumbug for being so amazing and accommodating.

And a big thank you to Mrs Ruth Smith, Year 7 Coordinator for all the planning behind the scenes for this camp, it truly paid off. Camp was well supported by other staff, Mr Patrick Dempsey, Mr Sydney Bulbul and Mr George Wardle and myself.

Until next year!
