Term 1, Week 8

Key Dates: 

  • Monday 31st March: Cross Country - Please see the Specialist section of the newsletter for details of the event.
  • Thursday 3rd April: Ulumbarra Theatre - Josephine Wants to Dance - Please note this event has been released on Compass and permission & payment can now be provided. Thank you to those families who have already done this.
  • Friday 4th April: Easter Hat Parade and Raffle, 9 am in The Hub.

Maths Challenge

Congratulations to 3/4 Lidgett for winning our first Maths Challenge of the year, with 100% of students participating in the challenge! Please find the answer to last fortnight's challenge below:

Cut and paste your answer on the back of your answer sheet! You have until the end of Week 9 to submit your answers to the office! 

What we have been up to...

Last week students were read the story 'Today we Have no Plans'. Students enjoyed the opportunity to create a kite, just like the characters in the book.

 

Students have also been practising partitioning numbers into tens and ones during Mathematics using games and hands on materials to learn this skill.

Upcoming Learning

Week 9 and 10

 

Reading, Writing and Spelling: 

Our focus texts for the next fortnight are:

  • Where the Forest Meets the Sea
  • Josephine Wants to Dance

Students will practise using the reading strategies predicting, making connections and also tuning into interesting vocabulary, whilst being read these books.

 

Our Writing lessons will continue to have a focus on writing recounts and narratives. Students have been exploring the writing process where they have: planned, drafted, revised, edited and then published a piece of writing.

 

Phonemes for  term 1 will include: 

 

Weeks 9 & 10: Revise based on student need

 

Mathematics: Students will continue explore the concepts of number and length.

 

Topic:  During Topic we will begin Fire Safety lessons. This will involve students coming home to discuss some topics such as Smoke Alarms and to create a plan if there was to be a fire at home, looking for things such as: where to meet, who will call 000 etc.

 

Respectful Relationships: As part of our Respectful relationships lessons students will be participating in Circle time and a lesson where they help to suggest friendship making strategies for the character "Wibbly".
