Auslan News
Prep students have continued practising their Auslan colour signs: Red – Yellow – Pink – Green – Purple – Orange – Blue – Black – Brown – Grey – White – Gold – Silver – Light and Dark (eg: light blue, dark blue.)
Prep students enjoyed interpreting signs that Mrs R was signing to colour in a house picture, using the PAINT program on Mrs Rs computer. We read the storybook Red House, Blue House, Green House, Tree House and signed the colours in the story. Then students designed their dream treehouse, to sign colours for the class to practise interpreting.
Grades 1-6 have been revising fruit signs, including: apple – avocado – banana – strawberries – blueberries – grapes – lemon – orange – pear – pineapple – watermelon – tomato – apricot – mango – coconut – cherries – peach – plum, and fruit salad.
Grades 1-6 have also learned new signs for vegetables: broccoli – carrot – corn – cucumber – garlic – lettuce – mushroom – onion – pear – potato – pumpkin.
Grade 1-2s enjoyed some Peter Rabbit activities, signing vegetables and fruits from Mr McGreggor’s Garden. They have continued practising simple sentences using the signs for love/like/dislike with fruits and vegetables.
Grade 3-4s have finished their topic on simple Greetings and Everyday signs. Many students were very keen to share sentences they had made up to sign in Auslan using our Everyday signs. I was impressed with the signing and interpreting skills in the Grade 3-4 classrooms!! G3-4s are now making paper-weave baskets with fruits and vegetables to sign to their peers.
Students are practising sentences using: I went shopping and I bought… I love/like/don’t like… I want/don’t want… Can I please have…?
G5-6s have been learning new signs for money and shopping, in connection with the Fruit and Vegetable signs. The G5-6 students are writing Grocery Lists or Fruit Salad Recipes to sign to their peers to practise simple sentences using money and shopping signs, colours and quantities.
