Year 7 Melbourne Camp

Year 7 had their Melbourne experience camp last week with lots of fun adventures.

Day 1 started with an early train to Melbourne with a high level of excitement. Our first stop was at the MCG where we got a tour of behind the scenes player areas, the ground, the MCG museum and got to meet Olympian Andrew Negrelli, who lives with Cerebral Palsy. Andrew is a Special Olympian Cera who shares stories of resilience, teamwork, community spirit and perseverance. Afterwards, we did some shopping at the South Melbourne Market and then back to the accommodation at City CYC to settle in for a movie night.

Day 2 was the most challenging day and saw us having a walk through the Paris end of Collins St at the steps of Collins St Baptist Church, where we were led by a group called "The Intersection". They guided us through understanding the difference between empathy and sympathy while hearing stories of homelessness and poverty. Then we were off to the Victorian Arts Centre where students did a drama workshop, building resilience for many of our students as they stepped out into an uncomfortable space of acting. After this we were challenged with heights as the students did some rock climbing. Some managed to get a meter off the ground and others 16 meters. Some games at the end of the day were great for bonding time.

Day 3 brought us the Melbourne Aquarium tour where the got to see a 5.5meter croc, a rare sawfish and Pesto the King Penguin. The prospect of being back home and in our own beds beconned us as we finished.

It was a great camp with lots of learning and eye opening experiences. With special thanks to Ms James (who was unable to attend) and Mr Zeunert for helping to organise camp and Miss Johnson for attending and supporting.

Here are some student highlights from the trip:

"The MCG experience, the games and the interview with the Olympian, and also just being able to see the change rooms and the seats felt like i was a real Footy player, and seeing the Cricket history" - Sam D

On Tuesday 4th March, a number of our Year 10's, 11's and 12's travelled to the Warrnambool Greyhound track to participate in the annual Careers Expo.

This event, put on by the Neil Porter Legacy, was all about connecting our students with local organisations and an opportunity to network, ask questions and discover new career opportunities.

The classes participating were the VCE VM class, the 3/4 Business Management class and the Year 10 students.
