Student Achievements

Kayla Georg
Late last year Kayla, Year 11, worked tirelessly on an article examining and scrutinizing the mental health of those with debilitating physical conditions and what we can do as a society to help and support them. The moving speech was submitted to the Governor's Civics Award Competition in which Kayla was among several others recognised and celebrated as active and informed citizens. Kayla, alongside other Year 10s from a variety of schools were hand selected and invited to Government House to receive a personalised commendation medallion for their efforts by the Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency, the Honourable Frances Adamson AC.
We thank Kayla for her strong, unwavering voice and congratulate her on this recognition.
What an achievement and determination for advocacy and change.
Thomas Wake-Dyster
Thomas, Year 10, was recently cast as Grandpa Joe in the Adelaide Theatre Academy's hit show Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Grandpa Joe, one of the main characters of the production, involved learning a hefty 95 lines, not including singing and dancing routines.
Each character had a counterpart, which essentially creates two casts within the production to fulfil performance timeslots. Thomas worked closely with his counterpart over the show's season to further develop their characters and learn from each other.
The production called for intensive full day rehearsals throughout the January holidays, where the majority of the dance numbers, harmonies and stage blocking was learnt. Following this, Thomas attended rehearsals every Sunday right up until the show season.
Thomas played Grandpa Joe in the second cast, performing in the last three shows at the Norwood Town Hall. When he wasn't on stage, he was supporting his counterpart and assisting in set movements and the preparation of props behind the scenes.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a very successful show with full audiences across all session times. What an amazing opportunity to be involved in such a fun and dynamic play. This experience has no doubt created lasting memories, established new friendships and further fueled your passions.
All the best for your next role as Prince Hans in the musical, Frozen.
Chookas!
