Classroom Happenings

      Foundation & Year 1

Our Foundation and Year 1 students have been little rockstars in the classroom, embracing new learning experiences with enthusiasm! It has been a busy and exciting time as we explore new concepts across literacy and numeracy.

Foundation students have been introduced to their very first letter and sound – ‘M’! They have taken great pride in practising their handwriting, carefully forming each letter. In Writing, we have been reading rich and engaging stories, with Grandpa and Thomas emerging as a class favourite. This has sparked wonderful discussions and inspired our young writers to express their ideas.

In Maths, technology has been an exciting addition to our learning, helping students explore number concepts in an interactive way. Foundation and Year 1 have been working together to investigate "friends of ten and twenty," developing a strong understanding of number relationships through hands-on activities and collaborative challenges.

Years 2/3/4

We have had a busy few weeks in the 2/3/4 classroom!

We have moved from 'Addition and Subtraction' to 'Time' in Maths. We have been learning about Elapsed Time (Time that has passed) and being able to recognise elapsed time on both analogue and digital clocks. We have been learning about the duration of a variety of events, estimating the duration of an event and timing events to get the actual duration. This has been great for getting out of the classroom and engaging in some hands on fun!

This week marks the start of Lent. In Religion, we have been learning all about Lent, its meaning and some of the terminology around the 40 day period of Lent. We have created our own class Lenten Tree that is to remind us that Lent is a period of new spiritual growth as well as being a time for prayer, fasting and giving. Whilst we do not participate in fasting during the time of Lent, we are often talking about what we could give up for Lent- chocolate, gossip, being disrespectful etc. We have spent time and discussed WHY we pray, fast, and give during Lent. And ultimately, it is so we can grow our relationship with God! As we continue our Lent journey and learn new things about this time, we will add to our Lenten Tree. A very BIG thankyou to our families for remembering a gold coin donation for Pancake Day. It was a wonderful success!

It can be said that AFL clinics have been a major hit over the past few weeks in our class! The students have been coached by a skilled AFL player to learn a variety of skills associated with the sport. We have been working on our skills of handballing, hand-eye coordination, marking and kicking- all through fun games and drills. The students skills are already improving so much!

Years 5 & 6

Wow, I can't believe it's already halfway through term!

In 5/6 we have been continuing to read War Horse while writing our narratives, which are almost finished.

In Maths we have been working on our unit of factors and multiples, a difficult topic that everyone is doing very well with! We have also begun our Lent unit for Religion, which focuses on the liturgical season in the church in the lead up to Easter.

The 5/6 also created a wonderful assembly that they presented to all our friends and family on Friday!
