Lent at Sacred Heart
St Patrick's Day
On St.Patrick's Day, the Year 3's organised their beautiful green treat parcels to raise funds for Project Compassion. The Year 4's were then enlisted to sell them on the four square courts. It was a very popular and busy morning. We managed to sell all of our bags!
Every student contributed positively to this fundraiser understanding that their efforts were for the benefit of others. This form of almsgiving was an important element of our learning this Lent. We were also spoiled with some delicious green cupcakes! Well done Year 3's and 4’s!

Social Justice Program
As part of our Social Justice Learning at Sacred Heart Kew, the Year 5 and 6 students reflected on a most moving presentation by Kalma Rathouski from CatholicCare Australia on Tuesday 18 March.
Olivia B - My favourite part of the CatholicCare Incursion was the picture of equity and equality. The picture was of 3 men, one short, one average height and the other tall. Each of the men besides the tall one got the amount of boxes stacked needed to see over the gate. I learnt what some people have to go through like the girl who had to stay 18 years at a refugee camp at only the age of 9 to 27. That is the majority of her childhood.
Grace N - In the CatholicCare incursion I really enjoyed Kalma teaching us about other people's stories and I loved learning that everyone should be treated with dignity in prisons, homeless people, bullies etc (no exceptions!) I also learnt that CatholicCare’s logo was a flower with three petals that symbolise the father, the son and the holy spirit. I loved learning about everything Kalma was teaching us. Thank you CatholicCare!!
James L - In the CatholicCare incursion we had a load of fun. My favourite part was where we learned about the word 'dignity'. The way we learned was like a guessing game where we had to stand up if yes and sit down if no. I learned about how hard it is for refugees to come to a different country and how CatholicCare helps.
Lucas J - During the CatholicCare incursion a person called Kalma spoke to us about dignity and how everyone should be treated. I really enjoyed learning about who they helped.

Sacrament of Reconciliation
We have been learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Reconciliation is a time when we acknowledge the poor choices we have made towards our friends and family. We may have hurt others through our words and actions and we can say sorry. It is a sacrament about forgiveness. We read and discussed the messages behind Zacchaeus and the Prodigal Son which are both parables about forgiveness. In both parables the characters were able to acknowledge their mistakes and feel the empowerment of forgiveness. Finally, we wrote a class prayer about forgiveness. We will be bringing these booklets home to share with our families next term.
Reminder of Key dates for the Sacrament of Reconciliation
- Wednesday 30 April - (6.30-7.30pm) Parent/Child Reconciliation Evening (W2)
- Friday 2 May - (10am - 12:45pm) Conferral of the Sacrament of Reconciliation (W2)
Father Michael visits to the classrooms
On Tuesday the 18th of March, the Grade 3’s and 4's welcomed Father Michael to the classroom. We were all very excited to meet our school’s new priest.
When he arrived, we all said hello and started to ask questions like what inspired him to become a priest? We all got him to answer our questions and we learnt what a priest does on a daily basis. We also learnt that Father Michael loves to play sports and that he was once in the Army. He said that he is delighted that he can get to know the Sacred Heart community. After a while, he needed to leave. We all said our goodbyes and then he had to leave. We all had so much fun and hope he comes to visit us again next term.

2025 School Closure Days
As was communicated to families last year...
* Time in Lieu (TIL)
The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.
Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.
Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
