SECONDARY (7-12)

Ethical Leadership Day
Eighty student leaders from nine Catholic secondary colleges across our diocese gathered at the Woolshed on Thursday for the annual Ethical Student Leadership Day.
A day of connection and learning, students heard from respected leaders including Kate Wilde from The Workshop Melbourne, and Catholic Education Sandhurst Executive Director Kate Fogarty who described Ethical Student Leadership Day as one of her “favourite days of the year”.
"They are deeply engaged in learning about their communities and the organisation they are part of, and they are thoughtfully considering the type of leaders they need to be to help their peers grow into the best versions of themselves," Kate said.
"Throughout the day, these student leaders have been dedicated to thinking about how they can bring their best selves to school every single day. I am so proud of the fabulous work they are doing and look forward to seeing their continued growth and impact."
It was an incredible opportunity for St Anne's College's emerging leaders to grow and network.
Reflecting on the day’s lessons, College Captain Alick Jarvis highlighted the importance of empathy in leadership.
"We've learnt a lot about empathy today. A few activities have showcased the different ways students can be included and excluded which has highlighted how leaders need to step up and ensure we connect with everyone we see, not just the ones we know," Alick said.
"It's also been fantastic to meet the leaders from other schools and share ideas on how to grow our school and grow our community.
"My main takeaway is realising everyone has issues and everyone's issues are important. As leaders, we need to be able to talk with people we don't know, find those issues and support them."
Year 9 Science - Bullseye!
Year 9 students have been studying the nervous system this term and dissected a cows eye to investigate how the eye helps us perceive the world. Students were incredibly engaged in this task and were able to observe the structures of the eye.
The Eye - Rhys Borysiewicz
When we dissected the eye it was quite fun. I got to see a close up of what is in an eye. The first thing we had to do was cut off all the fat around the eye. We then did a small cut into the centre of the eye. As we did that there was some liquid that come out straight away and then as we squeezed there was some jelly looking stuff which I didn't know was there, so that was cool. As we got the jelly out it decided to explode onto the floor so that was kinda funny. After we got the jelly out the eye lens came out as well and we put the lens onto the newspaper and we could see through it. After we did all that we turned the eye inside out and saw the cool colours in the back of the eye.
Uniform
Students are expected to wear their full academic uniform, unless they have a practical PE class scheduled. While the vast majority of our students are presenting each day in the correct uniform, we do have a few students that we are still working with to ensure they are in uniform. By the end of Week 3 we expect all students to have and wear the correct uniform. If issues with the uniform are not resolved by this time, consequences will apply.
VET Sport, Recreation and Aquatics will be required to wear PE uniform each Wednesday, Year 10 Sports Coaching students require their PE uniform on Monday and Thursday each week, VCE PE students in Units 1 and 3 are required to wear their PE uniform each Friday. There may be additional days that the PE uniform is required for VCE PE students and these days will be communicated to students via Google Classroom. PE days for Year 7, 8 and 9 will be confirmed via PAM ASAP.
A reminder that blazers are compulsory for students in Year 10-12. While students are not expected to wear their blazers while the weather is warm, they will require a blazer for school photos on Thursday 27 February. Please ensure you have purchased a blazer before this date.
Booklist - Years 10-12
Families of students in Years 10-12 are asked to ensure their child has all of the resources identified on the booklist, to ensure they can successfully engage in their studies. The booklist and “how-to-order” guide along with Leader's letter are attached below. Families are also expected to pay the Jacaranda digital library levy via Campion and Edrolo through the payment portal linked to student accounts. Please contact Sarah Baglin on sbaglin@sackialla.catholic.edu.au if you have any queries about resources. Payment of these resources is not optional and families will be billed if they are not paid by the due date.
Lockers
Please be reminded that all students are required to have a combination lock on their lockers. This is part of the ICT agreement that has been signed by all parents and students. If your student does not have a lock they can purchase a new one - please see Mardie in reception to do so.
Mobile phones & AirPods
A mobile phone policy was sent by the Director of Catholic Education Sandhurst, Ms Kate Fogarty to all families of Catholic Schools in the Diocese. This policy is based on research and what is deemed to be best for school aged students to enhance their learning opportunities while at school. All mobile devices and AirPods are to be stored in locked lockers for the duration of the school day. If a teacher directs students to use a device as part of their learning program this use would be allowed for this lesson and purpose only.
